Avalon and Magnus locked eyes. Their fists clenched tightly.
They knew Oberon was right.
But were they really supposed to just watch?
The other paragons stood frozen, fists clenched. The Aegis Shield was seconds from collapse. Even with Eletantron and Jezenet gone... without Atticus, they were doomed.
In the Ravenstein control room, Anastasia had her hands clutched over her mouth. Her heart, which had stopped once, now beat like a drum.
The air inside the room was heavy, the silence deafening.
Across the human domain, no one spoke. No one moved.
All eyes remained on the screen.
While many were worried for Atticus, deeper down, they were far more terrified about what would come next.
Death. Carnage. Extinction.
And then, suddenly, the gazes of everyone watching sharpened.
Their Apex, who had remained still and silent all this time, had just moved.
Their eyes locked onto him, focused, tense.
What was he about to do?
Meanwhile, Atticus couldn't help but thank his stars that he had moved as far away as he did from the tree.
Though he was actively getting pulled, the large distance gave him something he desperately needed.
Time to think.
And after collating every single thing in his mind, Atticus had finally reached a conclusion.
His will was being pulled toward the tree.
Which meant, to escape, he had to sever the connection between them.
But this wasn't as simple as it sounded. His will wasn't just a part of him, it was him, entirely. He couldn't just shut it off. It didn't work like that.
So, Atticus decided to do something else.
Something that was only possible due to the abilities he had recently acquired.
He would sever the connection... with a singularity.
The first time Atticus had formed a singularity had been when he merged with the Nullite's core and acquired the force of negation.
When he combined that energy with pure mana, it had formed a singularity strong enough to sever an entire mountain from existence.
A singularity was a point of absolute severance, where existence folded in on itself. It created a temporary void, nullifying all connection to the world around it.
But he couldn't use it like before. No.
He didn't need to sever a mountain this time.
He needed to sever... himself.
For this theory to work, Atticus had to turn himself into a singularity.
'Are you sure about this?' Ozeroth's voice rumbled in his head.
Atticus didn't hesitate. 'What choice do I have?'
'I'd be forfeiting my life and my family's if I allow myself to get captured. I have to try anything!
Ozeroth went silent for a moment before speaking,
"Then, I'm with you, bond!
Atticus nodded faintly. He understood what Ozeroth was worried about.
Even he didn't know what would happen if he went through with this. The consequences could be irreparable.
But even so, he was still going to do it.
Atticus's thoughts firmed as he focused.
To create a singularity, he had to combine the energy of negation with mana. But unlike last time...
He had to do it inside his body.
Though both energies already flowed through his veins, they did so in harmony, never touching, never interacting.
Almost like they were ignoring each other.
That was about to change.
Atticus exhaled deeply, and his exosuit roared to life, enveloping him entirely in a layer of gleaming, shifting plates.
He moved the energies.
Mana surged.
Negation surged.
And then... they collided.
A violent force jolted through his body.
At his core, the fusion sparked, looking unstable. A small orb of silver light began to form.
It pulsed. Once. Twice. Then it expanded.
The wave moved outward like a shock, flooding through his entire being in a surge.
Atticus's body began to change.
The tips of his hair turned silver.
His eyes flickered between normal and pure black.
His skin lost color, becoming pale, almost ghostlike, like something vital had been drained from him.
And yet... surprisingly, he felt no pain.
