Kellen felt his lip tremble as he exhaled, and the Captain came at Kellen like a bull in a china shop as soon as the doors were closed behind him. He wrapped his arms around him, giving him a tight squeeze.
"You did amazing." He told him, and Kellen felt his arms shake as he hugged him back.
"Yeah, you didn’t scream at anyone, you didn’t make anyone bleed. A win in my books." Hill teased as Kellen held onto the Captain like a lifeline. His arms around him were so comforting, and he shakily exhaled again.
"You held it together Kellen. I’m actually very proud of you." Pamela’s voice was full of warmth, and he nodded, still holding onto the Captain. He chuckled.
"How angry were you?" He teased and Kellen sniffed.
"Very. I wanted to be just as violent as they expected me to be." Hill chuckled.
"Well, you aren’t packing anything, so I doubt you’ll be able to. Just leave that up to the real Espers." Hill teased, and Kellen froze. When he didn’t respond, Hill spoke again. "I was joking. Kellen, you don’t have a gun on you right now, right?" He didn’t say anything again and Kellen felt the Captain reach around to the back of his pants. He pulled at the waistband before pulling out the gun he had there. Hill snorted, while Pamela groaned.
"Why do you have that?" She demanded and he shrugged.
"Captain warned me that some of the terrorists might have snuck in, so I wanted to be prepared. There are civilians among the reporters, and even if they are idiots, they still deserve to live and be safe."
"Did it ever occur to you that you might be the reason why they don’t feel safe?" Pamela asked.
"No. Never." Kellen answered honestly and Hill laughed. He heard her unwrap a lollipop before he felt it graze his lips. Stunned, he let her shove it into his mouth because he was afraid that if he didn’t, she’d accidentally break his teeth. Sucking, Kellen realised it wasn’t cherry, but strawberry.
"My fucking man. Packing heat at a press conference for excessive violence. I have to applaud you Kellen. Of all people, no one would have guessed you." He finally pulled away from the Captain, who held Kellen’s gun in his hand. Tentatively, he took it back, made sure the safety was still on, and slid it back into place. Pamela was shaking her head, while Hill grinned, and the Captain had a proud look in his eyes.
"You’ve done a great job. I assume you have classes after this?" Captain confirmed and he nodded. Kellen pulled the lollipop out of his mouth to answer him.
"Yeah. I planned to head back up to my apartment to change into my Guild uniform first though." Kellen’s phone vibrated as if someone was listening in on him. He pulled it out, noticing Brent’s name on the screen and picked it up. "Brent?" He asked.
"You little motherfucker. Good job. I passed by a room with a bunch of tvs and everyone was watching. Holy hell, when your eyes started glowing blues I thought I was going to shit myself. Hot as hell. Is the Captain nearby?" Kellen glanced behind him, aware that all three of them could probably hear him.
"Uh, he is?" He answered tentatively and Brent laughed.
"How is that man keeping his hands off of you right now? If you were mine and you’d just gone through something like that I would tuck you away from the world and smother you in kisses." Kellen felt his face flush and glanced up at the Captain who he knew was listening in. Kellen flinched as the Captain wrapped his arms around his waist from behind, and spoke into the phone and Kellen’s ear.
"You know Mr. Woods gets embarrassed when I openly show him affection. If it’s not guiding, he overthinks it." Brent’s laughter was loud even for Kellen’s ears.
"I shoulda known you could hear me. Of course, Captain Thatcher, that just means you got to get him used to it. He’s been rejecting everyone before you, so of course he needs some breaking in." Hill snorted, covering her mouth while Kellen felt himself shake in anger.
