Chapter 242: What are you wearing?

Kellen was able to calm down and finish his work in record time. Part of it was he was waiting for Rhys and wanted to have as much time available to them as possible, and the other part was that he was just focused on getting these contracts out.

Especially after the stairs. Taylor needed access to her whole powers. Pronto.

He couldn’t do that shit in front of others. Not unless he wanted to end up in actual chains. The Captain could only be pushed so far. Hell, even his Mom would have chained him up after seeing that display of pain.

So, with his newfound free time, Kellen grabbed the tablet he had been reading the romance novels that Hill had suggested to him, and did some relaxing reading while he waited. It wasn’t the first time he’d done this. He’d had some free time when everyone else had been busy for the time he hadn’t seen the Captain, and it took his mind off of things.

All in all, it wasn’t a bad way to burn time while he waited for the Captain. And he could settle down on the couch, stretch his leg out, and drink tea while doing so. It was a great way to calm down.

That was where he was, about an hour later when he heard movement at the door. He went to go get up, but was surprised when the door...opened. When did he get a key to his apartment? Did he always have a key to his apartment? Could he have always just...strolled inside while he was asleep or something? That was weird, right?

Why wasn’t he freaked out about that in the slightest?

The Captain looked tired. Not just tired, exhausted. His hair was a mess, his perfect look was slightly ruffled, and he sighed as soon as he stepped in through the doorway. Kicking off his shoes, he was pulling off his jacket when he looked towards the couch.

"Was work that rough after you left?" Kellen asked, staring at him as he stood in the doorway. That wasn’t quite what he wanted to ask. He wanted to ask about the keys, but he thought asking him as soon as he stepped in through the door was rude. He’d at least wait until he was in the apartment proper.

Or, he would have, if Rhys hadn’t frozen stiff.

He stopped moving, and Kellen worried he’d stopped breathing. His jacket fell out of his hands before he was able to hang it up, and that had Kellen truly worried. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

Putting the tablet down, Kellen tossed his legs over the side of the couch, and with the assistance of his cane, got to his feet. Slipping his feet into his slippers, he moved towards the Captain, concerned.

"Rhys? Is everything alright?" Kellen asked, staring up at him. As he got closer he realised that Rhys’ eyes weren’t leaving him, and they were quite bright. It wasn’t a yellow or a gold distinctly, and instead it felt like the two were mixing. Was he feeling...conflicted? Or was something else going on.

He didn’t pick up his jacket, and instead covered his mouth with a shaking hand. The other he wrapped around himself, and Kellen could tell it was a firm grip from the way the fabric crinkled under his hand. His face was turning red, and Kellen had no idea why.

"Rhys?" He asked again, peering up at him, checking him. He wanted to touch him, to make sure his levels were okay, but something was warning against it. He’d avoided listening to the little voice the last few times it had warned him, but right now? He thought it was a safe time to do so.

Rhys stumbled back until his back hit the closet. Kellen frowned. That was very unusual for him, and Kellen also noticed that his chest was rising and falling quickly. Rapidly.

When he met his gaze again, his eyes looked...dazed? Confused? What on earth was going on?

"W-W-W-What are you w-w-wearing?" Rhys’ stuttered, the words catching in his throat. Kellen frowned further.

"Clothes?" He offered, confused, and Rhys shook his head.

"No! On top!" He practically shouted, and Kellen was having a hard time wrapping his head around this hot and cold behaviour. What was going on? Why was he behaving this way? Shifting on his feet, Kellen gripped onto his cane.

"A t-shirt? Why are you reacting this way?" Kellen asked, confused. He was wearing what he’d normally wear for the last two weeks.

What he would...normally wear...for the last two weeks...

His whole face went bright red.

"If I ever, ever make you think that I don’t like something you’ve done and it’s along the lines of this? It’s not me. Kill me. I’ll deserve it. Fuck. I could die and go to heaven happy. I’ve wanted to see you in this since, god, I don’t know how long. Can you...can you give me a spin? I want to see you from behind in this. Fuck. I should ask you to wear this again sometime while you have your Field Guide uniform on." Rhys was rambling, his cheeks still flushed, and Kellen didn’t know what to do.
