"Cough! Cough! Cough!" The woman coughed while her colleague stared at Ling Chu as if the mer had grown another head.
"Mister—"
"You can address me as Mister Lin, Madam," Ling Chu smiled at the woman and introduced himself, "I am the small chef of the stall where you were standing just now."
"Mister Lin, I am Bai Lingzhi and this is my friend and companion, Cao Baozhi," Madam Bai introduced herself out of courtesy. She then looked at Ling Chu and said to him, "Mister Lin, I am really sorry but I cannot take you to the Dead Star with us, like you already know, people with no special permit are not allowed to visit the Dead Star."
Ling Chu cursed his luck. Even though he somehow managed to get an opportunity, he was still stuck at square one!
Not wanting to give up so easily, Ling Chu pulled an aggrieved and troubled expression before saying, "Madam, it is not that I am trying to find trouble for you or anyone. But I will be honest with you, I have no one who cares for me and I am all alone in this world."
With a sobbing tone, Ling Chu sniffed and continued, "I am trying my best to make a living but you see, you are not the only one who comes to my stall and tells me that my cooking is above average. Of course, I am more than aware of my skills and I accept their criticisms."
Ling Chu raised his hand and then wiped the non-existent tears at the corner of his eyes before saying, "I just want to learn the fine skills of Miss Mo. You might be already aware of this but a few days ago, Miss Mo had cooked really sumptuous fish soup for her teammates and the production team."
"I —just want to learn a little something from her, who has great skills to survive and nothing else. After all, what can I even do? I am just a little mer."
"You are indeed right!"
Ling Chu jumped when he heard the loud voice of Bai Mingzhi. He did not know what he said but the woman seemed to be rather pleased with him.
"You are indeed correct," said the woman with a gleeful smile. "Miss Mo is really great when it comes to cooking food. You have no idea, this fish soup which everyone is going crazy over is nothing. Miss Mo could even make roasted chicken, baked crabs in cheese and fried fish along with fish balls and many other recipes. I am particularly fond of popcorn."
"It tastes so sweet and delicious, that I am addicted to it, you know?"
Popcorn? Cheese? Roasted chicken? Suddenly Ling Chu felt like he was a frog in the well. He was an S-grade chef and with his skills, he could even deal with the most dangerous and poisonous meat of a beast.
Yet, in front of these two women, he felt like a kindergartener. Was he really that unskilled, how come he did not know any recipes these women were talking about?
