Fennec was speechless.
…
Thalia, after all, had spent 18 years in the alternate world. Before that, she had built up her own business and network in Seastone.
Therefore, it didn't take long before she managed to borrow a villa from a wealthy lady she used to know.
The group set out right away, driving toward the villa, and made sure to bring "Mike" along with them.
The car Fennec was using had originally been left behind by Thalia. Since there weren't enough seats for everyone, they borrowed another car from Eddie. "Mike" ended up riding in the same car as Shannon.
Sitting in the back seat, watching the scenery shift as the car headed in the direction of the university, he finally gathered the courage to ask about the other Mike.
He wanted to know who he was and where he went. More importantly, who was this group of people?
Shannon had no intention of dragging this Mike into their mess. So, instead of answering his question, she posed one of her own.
"I can tell you, but it might cost you—a lot. Do you still want to know?"
The car fell silent for a beat. After a long pause, he let out an awkward laugh. "Turns out… I'm actually not that curious."
The world was a strange place, full of things beyond explanation. He was curious, sure, but not curious enough to risk his wallet.
The rest of the ride passed quietly.
When they finally arrived near the campus, Mike eagerly pulled the door handle and hopped out. But just as he stepped out of the car, Shannon's voice stopped him.
"Mike."
He turned his head, just in time to see a glowing talisman flash before his eyes, pulsing with mystic light.
Shannon looked at him, her voice soft, almost dreamlike. "Everything that happened today was just a dream. Now, return."
