Chapter 40

It might have sounded a bit exaggerated, but it was the truth.

“Go ahead and pick out some clothes,” Jade said as she pulled Luna over to the racks.

Jade had an eye for fashion.

After changing out of her dull, grey outfit, Luna seemed to shine. She looked completely different in a light purple dress paired with her high ponytail. She wasn’t just youthful and vibrant, as even her slightly pale face looked even more beautiful.

“Now for the shoes,” Jade continued, picking out a pair of flat fashion shoes. “You usually wear sneakers, and I bet you’re not used to heels. Start with these for now. Once you get used to them, you can slowly try heels.”

She gestured for Luna to try on the shoes.

When Luna changed into them, the group sized her up. Nicole clapped her hands and smiled. ” Just like they say–clothes make the person. Turns out Luna is a real beauty!”

Jade was equally pleased. “She looks great. Later, I’ll help you pick out a set of business attire. That way, you’ll look more professional when you go for internships.

“You don’t need to buy many more shoes. These go with everything, but if you want, we can buy another pair for variety.”

Jade was attentive and thoughtful, ensuring every little detail was taken care of for Luna.

This only strengthened Luna’s resolve to save her.

Jade was such a great woman–how could Luna let anyone harm her or let her fall into such

terrible circumstances?

Compared to Mia’s pretense, Jade was the true definition of beauty both inside and out.

It had been so long since Luna had felt this happy–reconciling with her roommates, buying new clothes, enjoying delicious food, and, most importantly, getting back the money Trevor owed her.

The sense of clarity that filled her was something she hadn’t experienced in a long time. This was what it felt like to truly live.

Now, far away from those scumbags, she believed she would live an even better life going forward.

The next day, Luna and Nicole went to the South Auditorium on campus for the Medical Innovation Competition kick–off meeting.

Chapter 40

Nicole was also the student representative for their team. She told Luna that the innovation proposal Luna had helped write was useful. It had also been well received by the team members.

Although Luna helped write the proposal, she hadn’t told Nicole to share it with the team. She didn’t want to cause any unnecessary trouble or let too many people know about it.

“By the way, our team senior said he would write the presentation paper. If we need any new data, I’ll come to you. At the end of it all, I’ll treat you to a meal!”

Nicole linked her arm with Luna’s, and the two chatted and laughed as they walked into the

auditorium.
