I lay on the couch and stared at the ceiling, not sleeping a wink that night.

My in–laws didn’t think their disappearance for a whole night was a big deal; they asked Bonnie if she felt alright with the baby she was carrying.
Blushing, Bonnie engaged with them while shooting glances at Harlan shyly from time to time.
They seemed like one happy family, and I was like an intruder.
“Fiona, why aren’t you saying anything? Are you looking down on me? You don’t bother to talk to me?”
Bonnie suddenly turned to me.
Before I could say anything, she burst into tears.
Harlan immediately grabbed her a tissue with distress in his eyes.
Then he scolded me coldly, “Why the long face again? Bonnic is a pregnant woman in the early stages of pregnancy. Can’t you show some understanding?”
“Forget it, Harlan. I’m being overly sensitive. Don’t be so mean to Fiona.”
Bonnie started it, and now she was acting all considerate.
Harlan’s expression darkened even more.
“I’ve explained everything to you and transferred you money. Why are your

still sulking?”
I said, “I’m not. I want to talk to Bonnie in private.”
He was stunned. “What about? No. I don’t feel comfortable with this.”
“Are you worried that I might hurt her? Chill. I won’t do anything.”
I looked at him calmly.
Finally, he relented. He asked the servants to clean the dining table and then walked to the windowsill to enjoy the scenery outside.
“After all, you need a father for your baby, right?”
