Love beyond the mask (Whitney) novel Chapter 1207

“Sis…” The sudden shift in Whitney’s tone put Sandy instantly on edge. “Is there something going on between Florence and Shane? Wait—did Florence ever try to hit on Shane or something?”

Whitney practically rolled her eyes at her sister’s wild imagination. “Focus, Sandy! Did Shane mention Florence at all? What did he say?”

Sandy snapped back, her frustration bubbling up again. “He pinned me down on the kitchen table like some kind of criminal—being a creep wasn’t enough, he also started saying a bunch of stuff that made zero sense. Mumbling about how Florence was dead and that there’s no one left to prove anything. He kept ranting about regrets, that he should’ve forced Florence to reveal the truth about me before she died… What truth about me? I seriously don't get it!

Whitney, do you have any idea what he’s talking about? You seem to know him better than I do. Is there something about Florence that I don’t know, something tied to me?”

Whitney’s ears burned as she blinked hard, her lashes fluttering. Just as she’d feared—get enough whiskey in Shane and he couldn’t keep his secrets bottled up anymore. Of all people, he spilled his guts to Sandy, and now what was Whitney supposed to do with that?

On the upside, at least Sandy was finally starting to get suspicious. On the downside, Shane was absolutely hopeless—couldn’t even confess properly! To Sandy, it probably just felt like she’d been harassed by some perverted creep, but how was Whitney supposed to explain any of this?

She hesitated, then offered up what little she could. “Sandy, I promise you, nothing ever happened between Florence and Shane. But…is it possible Florence did something to you, something you never knew about?”
