When William asked, Abigail froze, caught off guard. She stared at William’s serious expression in disbelief.

“Why would you ask that?” she asked, her tone laced with confusion.

She thought, “After all, William has never even met Marcus. Why does William dislike Marcus?”

William’s expression remained earnest. “Abigail, marriage is a lifetime commitment. As your family, I only want you to marry someone you truly love and be happy. Whether he’s wealthy or not, that’s secondary.”

No one had ever said such words to Abigail before. Listening to William’s gentle, thoughtful tone, she felt her heart warm as though it were steeped in hot water, gradually melting away her defenses.

William added, “A scumbag ever cheated on you before. That doesn’t mean you don’t deserve better. I don’t want you to rush into marriage out of spite.”

He gestured toward Abigail with a look of pride. “Sweetie, you’re beautiful, capable, and intelligent. You can easily find a husband. who cherishes and treats you like a treasure.”

William thought, “A rich old man is not worthy of you.”
