Chapter 79 One Million in Compensation

Abigail hadn’t planned to intervene, but Lena had been with the company for a long time. To fire her just for a couple of careless comments and then threaten to blacklist her across the entire industry? That was crossing a line.

Caroline’s eyes flashed with hared and jealousy. “Abigail, I’m just firing a department head. Do you really need to get involved?”

Abigail remained calm, her tone steady as she replied, “While she made a mistake, it’s not severe enough to warrant being fired.”

Caroline shot back defiantly. “So what? I’ve already decided she’s out.” With that, Caroline turned to Lena and sneered, “You might as well wait for your dismissal notice.” She didn’t hesitate to swipe at her phone screen, preparing to make the call.

Abigail’s gaze sharpened slightly as she spoke in her usual measured tone. “According to company policy, if an employee is dismissed for unjust reasons, they’re entitled to compensation based on their years of service and salary.”

Caroline, looking unfazed, shrugged. “So what? She’s just a supervisor. What’s the big deal about paying some money?”

Abigail continued, “But she has been with the company for a long time and made significant contributions, including working on key projects. By the rules, firing her would require a compensation of at least one million. If you insist on firing her, you will have to pay for it.”

Caroline froze, her hand paused mid–air above her phone. She thought, “One million? To fire a woman in her forties, we’d have to pay that much? Abigail is bluffing.”

She sneered, “Who are you fooling? She’s not worth that much.”

Abigail, unfazed by Caroline’s disbelief, added, “Check the company’s rules if you don’t believe me, or better yet, you can call Mr. Winchester and confirm.”

Caroline was speechless. She’d been desperate to fire Lena, but to secure James‘ support, she’d already spent three million on three Envision Group anniversary invitations. Where would she get a million from?

Caroline argued, “She’s an employee of the company. If she’s fired, the compensation should come from the company, not

me.”

Abigail countered, her voice cool but firm, “She’s being fired for a personal matter. Since she hasn’t violated any company rules, you’re the one responsible for the compensation.”

Caroline seethed. Abigail was clearly trying to make things difficult for her. Caroline fell silent, realizing she was trapped.
