Selina swallowed hard.
This... how was she supposed to bring this up?
Logan narrowed his eyes—so, she had finally noticed the issue with Owen also having the last name Reid.
If she discovered that he wasn’t actually the heir of the Carter Family, would she still stand by his side like this?
His gaze deepened. Selina, feeling guilty under his stare, stammered, "N-nothing! I wasn’t thinking about anything!"
Strange. Why was she the one feeling guilty? If Logan really wasn’t from the Carter Family, shouldn’t he be the one feeling uneasy?
But his expression remained calm, showing not the slightest trace of discomfort, as if he wasn’t afraid of being exposed at all. That only made Selina more confused.
Logan absentmindedly rubbed his fingertips together and smoothly changed the topic. "Your mother’s design book—Grandma has nearly finished restoring it."
Selina’s eyes lit up. Instantly, all other thoughts disappeared. "Really? Take me to see it!"
Logan chuckled softly and turned away. "Mm, let’s go."
Jack watched their retreating figures and felt a lump form in his throat.
Was Madam... too easy to coax?
Before long, Logan brought Selina to Grandma Perry’s courtyard.
Grandma Perry gave Logan a meaningful look before saying, "Selina, I’ve only managed to restore one page of the design book so far. The rest still need work."
She handed the book to Selina. "But just this one page reveals a lot of problems."
Selina took it, and in the next second, her expression darkened.
The jewelry designs on the page were identical to Carter Group’s long-standing, best-selling pieces.
Grandma Perry’s voice was calm. "You must have noticed it too. But with only this one page, there’s no solid proof."
Selina understood what the old lady was implying.
Old Mr. Carter had always claimed to have been a close friend of her mother’s. If she made a fuss over this design book, Carter Group could easily argue that her mother had willingly given them the designs.
But Selina’s instincts screamed otherwise.
The designs had to have been stolen!
Otherwise, why had Katie tried to destroy them? Why had James done nothing to stop her? If Carter Family was involved, then everything suddenly made sense.
Logan’s gaze flickered coldly. Grandma Perry caught on immediately.
"Selina, never be too trusting of others. Old Mr. Carter may not be as honorable as he seems."
Selina’s eyes glinted. "I understand. Thank you for the warning."
Grandma Perry nodded. "Leave the book with me—I’ll continue restoring it. Logan, come here. I need to speak with you."
Logan’s eyes narrowed slightly. He turned to Selina, his voice gentle. "I have some matters to take care of. Do you want Jack to take you home first?"
Selina nodded and got into the car.
Jack: "..."
Ever since he realized how much his boss cared for Madam, he’d been so anxious. He wanted nothing more than to personally help Logan confess his feelings!
How could he let an assistant handle something as important as escorting her home?!
Jack hesitated, then said, "Madam, please don’t overthink things. The boss really does have business to attend to!"
Selina blinked, confused.
"...?"
She wasn’t overthinking anything, though?
After Selina left, Grandma Perry’s gaze grew distant. "This is the first time I’ve seen you care about someone so much."
Logan didn’t answer. Instead, he countered, "You like her too, don’t you?"
Grandma Perry shifted topics. "Logan, stay out of the Carter Family’s affairs."
For once, Logan didn’t comply. "Thomas has a guilty conscience. Why shouldn’t I pursue this? Grandma, do you really think I don’t know why Thomas is so ’kind’ to Selina?"
Thomas Carter—the so-called Old Mr. Carter.
Grandma Perry hesitated, but before she could speak, Logan’s voice turned cold.
"He treats Selina well, just like he once treated me well. It’s all just a part of his calculations."
Grandma Perry fell silent for a long time before sighing. "The Carter Family wronged you. But keeping this from Selina won’t solve anything."
Logan turned his head, his tone unwavering. "Trust me. My Mrs. Reid has never needed that kind of fake concern." freewebnøvel.com
