Meanwhile...
"We shouldn’t do this," said Zoren, turning to the driver’s seat where his brother-in-law was seated. "I don’t think Penny will appreciate it when her husband suddenly shows up when tonight is supposed to be a night with her friends."
Moreover, he didn’t want to interrupt drunk Penny from experiencing the friendships she had formed in this lifetime. This was her time, and he didn’t want to take that away from her. However, Hugo couldn’t understand Zoren’s hesitation because he was oblivious to his sister’s current dilemma.
Looking at the front passenger seat where Zoren was, Hugo snorted. "If you don’t want to get in, then I’ll go in. I’ll just make sure that she’s okay."
"She’s okay," Zoren asserted. "I told you. I had my men follow her in the shadows."
"Where are they?"
"Probably around the corner," he said, not bothering to look around, as that would be a waste of time. He wouldn’t see them, anyway. But Hugo was curious.
Holding the steering wheel with both hands, Hugo ducked and scanned the surroundings. "Uh... I don’t see any of them?"
"They’re hiding."
"Nope."
Zoren arched a brow. "Then they’re probably blending in with the crowd. Inside."
"Fair enough." Hugo nodded, as that made a lot more sense. "But it wouldn’t hurt to check on her, right?"
This time, Zoren didn’t answer. He didn’t have to because Hugo was making a little bit of sense. Even so, if Penny caught them, she might feel upset. She had already told him about not being happy with his bodyguards following her all the time. They simply hadn’t argued about it because Penny understood Zoren’s concern.
"Fine, fine!" Hugo raised his hands in surrender. "You win. Let’s go home. If your men are already watching over her, then there’s no need to worry."
Zoren nodded and then snapped his eyes toward the establishment. He squinted a little as he heard Hugo start the engine again. However, just before Hugo could drive away, they saw some people running out of the establishment.
"I think... we should check on her," Zoren blurted out, stopping Hugo and making him look at him.
"Are you on your period?" Hugo blurted out. "Why are you changing your mind every other minute?"
Earlier on the training ground, Zoren didn’t want to come with him to follow Penny. In the end, he changed his mind and rode with Hugo instead of going with the escort car that followed them. Now Zoren was doing the same thing.
"Zoren, dear brother-in-law, you do understand you have a way of convincing people," Hugo added matter-of-factly. "I’m losing my mind if you don’t decide."
Ignoring Hugo’s remarks, Zoren kept his eyes on the establishment. He didn’t understand the feeling in his heart. After all, his decision not to disturb Penny and not to be the nosy husband was as firm as a rock. However, after seeing some people come out of the establishment, a sudden gut feeling crawled its way from the pit of his stomach to his heart.
The feeling was disconcerting, and whenever his gut was telling him something, he had learned to listen to it.
’I’m starting to get used to them,’ he thought. ’I almost forgot that they’ve been following us since the beginning.’
