When Finn came to Penny’s office, she was certain he knew she would have him followed. Thus, Finn went to see Nina, as if he were so sure Jonathan would approach her. He was correct. While Penny’s people followed Finn, he led them to the very person who had been filling Penny’s mind with question marks.
"He looks kind." Angel stood around where everyone was seated, holding the stolen photograph of Jonathan. "This is the guy from the sketch? The forensic sketch was amazing. He almost got it."
Mark nodded. "Now that I’m seeing it up close, he does look like the sketch."
"Let everyone know about this face," Zoren ordered the two. "It’s better to keep an eye on him now and see what he’s up to."
"Yes, sir." Mark didn’t ask questions as he nodded, but Angel was different.
Angel darted his eyes between Penny and Zoren before asking, "Can I ask a question? Just what exactly can this guy do? What did he do to earn your attention?"
Zoren drew his lips into a thin line before moving his gaze to Penny. He thought she should be the one to answer Angel. After all, how could they explain that they were going to keep an eye on this guy because he was someone Penny could remember from her past life?
Penny stared at Angel, expecting such a question. "He’s going to kill me."
Her answer, however, was something no one expected—even Zoren. All three men gazed at her with equal shock and confusion. But Penny remained unfazed by the looks cast upon her.
"He hasn’t done anything to me yet," she clarified. "But I’m certain he would."
After all, how could anyone explain Jonathan’s presence on her execution day? Why would he be there? Jonathan and Penny didn’t know each other, and yet, it seemed that the man came to her execution for one reason: to make sure she would die.
Penny might not know his motives yet—why he did what he did—but one thing was certain: this man was someone she shouldn’t take her eyes off, even for a second. It seemed, just like her and Finn, Jonathan remembered his past life.
In a situation where three people experienced the same phenomenon—remembering their past life—it was all a matter of survival. Just like her, whose heart was burning with determination to survive this life, Penny was certain it was the same for the other two. Although it might not all be about survival, as she wasn’t sure if Jonathan had died.
But surviving was also the same as... success as a motivator, right?
"Do you still need to ask me why he wants me dead?" Penny asked, her eyes fixed on Angel. The latter studied her expression before shaking his head.
"There’s no need for that," said Angel, tucking the photograph inside his suit. "Everyone will know about this face in a few minutes."
Pleased, Penny nodded in satisfaction. "Good."
Having said that, Angel kept his gaze locked with hers and nodded. At this point, Mark also rose from his seat and faced the couple sternly.
"Since this discussion has reached its conclusion, I will leave you two alone." Mark lowered his head at the two, and even without hearing their response, he turned to Angel. The latter nodded at him before bidding Zoren and Penny goodnight.
