Penny had always listened to her gut feeling; it had saved her multiple times in this lifetime. Thus, she often heeded it, and right now, her intuition was telling her that all these attacks disguised as "accidents" were connected in one way or another.
Although it wasn’t clear, and there didn’t seem to be any connection between Finn, Allen, and Merrick, Penny was almost certain this wasn’t just a coincidence.
’Finn, Allen, Merrick...’ Penny thought, squinting her eyes as she stared out the window from the backseat of the sedan. ’Finn told me about Jonathan, Merrick is digging up the baby swap, but Allen...?’
What did Allen have to do with all of this to the point he was being framed for stealing the company’s data?
Penny didn’t think much of the attack in the Information Center because that was Merrick’s business. It was part of the complicated and dangerous lives of those connected to it. As for Finn, it was clear as day who he was against. Only Allen’s situation was different.
Unlike Merrick and Finn, who were, in a way, too involved with all the mysteries lurking in the deepest parts of their shadows, Allen seemed like an anomaly. He didn’t fit in at all. Aside from working for Atlas, Allen had no idea what was happening. Penny was certain Atlas couldn’t have trusted the Bennet situation with Allen because it was dangerous. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Wasn’t that the reason Charles had kept his mouth shut all this time?
Knowing what Charles had gone through, the people involved attracted danger itself. So, there was no way Atlas would’ve told Allen about it.
Then, back to the main point: Why Allen?
"Are you okay?" Zoren’s calm and gentle voice caressed her ears, snapping her back to the present. When Penny held his gaze, he said, "You’ve been quiet since we left the hospital. Very quiet."
"I’m okay." Penny nodded and smiled. "It’s just that Allen doesn’t fit into all of this at all."
"Perhaps it’s just like what your Second Brother and First Brother suspect. Allen found out about something he shouldn’t have. Whether it was an accident or not, I’m sure they wanted to keep his mouth shut... for whatever reason."
Penny shook her head. "What is it, though?" she replied, not expecting any clear answer from her husband. She was simply voicing her thoughts. "What did he find out? Why was he even in the company at that hour in the first place?"
"I think ’why’ is not the question."
"Huh?"
"Why he was there in the first place doesn’t matter. Allen is the only person who could explain why he was there. However, what I’m certain of is that whoever was in there that night didn’t expect him to be there either."
Another moment of silence fell between them as Penny looked at her husband with a new realization. Her lips parted slightly, nodding in understanding.
"You’re right," she murmured under her breath. "Why he was there in the first place isn’t important. It’s what he saw — or who?"
Penny pressed her lips into a thin line, snapping her eyes back to her husband. "He knew him."
