Smoke and gunfire billowed over the mountain.
In the end, Ferdinand was undone by love. Driven by selfish desire, he brought down the “kingdom of shadows” he’d spent years building. Gifford was dead, and the other leaders—dragged here by Ferdinand and now trapped—had no way out.
They had spilled plenty of blood for their own gain. No one would shed tears for them.
Yet in their world, this was a betrayal sparked by Ferdinand alone.
His obsession destroyed everything.
And in the end, his fixation destroyed him too.
The devil who created hell dared to dream of a lifetime of happiness with a mortal—what a cruel joke.
Ferdinand would find no peace, no sympathy.
On the edge of the cliff, Mary knelt, thunder cracking overhead, waves crashing far below. Her sobs were lost in the storm.
The child inside her twisted and kicked.
She clutched her belly, her laughter tangled with tears, her tears twisted into laughter.
A special ops officer rushed over to help her up. The operation wasn’t over, but a pregnant woman couldn’t linger here. They hurried her down the mountain.
…
By the time they reached the base, an ambulance was waiting.
Stewart carried Briony into the vehicle.
Jonah caught sight of the blood running down Stewart’s arm and blanched. “You’re hurt!”
“Forget about me,” Stewart snapped. “Check on Bryn first!”
Jonah sighed, turning to the nurse. “Get his bleeding under control, will you?”
The nurse nodded, quickly grabbing bandages and pressing them to Stewart’s wound.
But Stewart’s eyes never left Briony.
“High fever, low blood pressure,” Jonah said after a hurried exam. “Acute leukemia, and she’s in an active phase. There may be internal bleeding. Get her on oxygen. How long till we reach the hospital?”
“About twenty minutes to Global Unity Medical,” the nurse replied.
The rain poured down, the ambulance crawling through flooded streets.
Jonah’s expression tightened. “Call ahead. Have them prep an OR.”
“On it!”
Twenty minutes later, the ambulance pulled up to Sanctonia Private Estate—Global Unity Medical.
Briony was rushed into emergency.
The red light above the door flicked on.
Stewart stood there, staring at the glowing sign, jaw clenched.
