Chapter 143
Valerie, thinking she had finally shaken off that obnoxious Owen, cheerfully began house hunting
This villa district was truly upscale.
The facilities and services here were state of the art. Many of the equipment models were even newer than those in the mansion she and Aids lived in. Thanks to its different location, this new development was considerably more affordable than their matrimonial home, and Valerie couldn’t but feel pleased.
After touring with Ferlyn, Valerie quickly settled on a spacious 4,200–square–foot luxury villa, complete with a basement, swimming pool, and roolios garden–all for just 2.4 million dollars.
Although it was slightly over budget, overall it was still a pretty good deal.
Valerie didn’t hesitate. She said, “Alright, I’ll take this one. Are there any special offers?”
Ferlyn was caught off guard by Valerie’s decisiveness. Delighted, she immediately said, “Yes, yes.”
Ferlyn immediately launched into an enthusiastic presentation, offering Valerie several perks. She said, “Perfect timing. The project just launched today. I’ll get you the best deal possible. Why don’t we grab a seat in front and talk?”
Valerie, a first–time homebuyer unfamiliar with the process, was escorted by Ferlyn to a sofa in the lobby. She could immediately sense the astonished gazes from all around.
Carolyn, who was the first to serve Valerie, was simply seething with regret. Watching Ferlyn beaming with triumph, her own forced smile looked ugly.
The surrounding colleagues were gloating, whispering, and snickering among themselves.
One of the colleagues said, “Some people are always like this, thinking they’re so clever, but in the end, they just outsmart themselves.”
Another colleague chimed in, “Indeed. That smug look on her face just now was priceless. And now the client is paying in full. She just lost out on tens of thousands of dollars in commission.”
Carolyn’s face darkened.
A colleague leaned over and said, “Ignore them. Weren’t they acting all smug just a minute ago, too? I heard a VIP is coming today, the wife of a top executive.
“Upper management told us she’s coming in secretly, without her husband knowing, and we’re supposed to give her red–carpet treatment. She’s definitely going to buy, so if we land this deal, it’ll wipe those smug grins right off their faces.”
Carolyn had already heard about the VIP’s visit, and it finally gave her a sliver of comfort. Now, all she could do was hope that the big shot would show soon so she could land the deal and stop being the office laughingstock.
Unaware of the dispute among the sales agents, Valerie sat on the sofa for a while. Soon, another agent approached, dressed in a sharp black suit, clearly of a higher rank than the others.
With a warm smile, she said, “Ms. Clark? There’s a short wait for the next step in the process. I’ve prepared a quiet private lounge for you. Please come
with me and relax there for a bit.”
Valerie arched a brow, but without suspicion, stood up and followed her.
But shortly after she entered, the door swung open.
Valerie glanced toward the door, and there stood Owen.
Owen flashed a sleazy smile, his eyes practically undressing Valerie with undisguised lust. “Ms. Clark, we meet again.”

Valerie’s face darkened as she shot a glance at the door.
The door clicked shut, in that instant, Valerie knew she’d been set up by Ower and that sales agent in the black suit
Valerie arched her brow slightly and said, “What exactly are you trying to do?”
“Now, now,” Owen said with a smile, “what do you think I want? I just want to get to know you better, Ms. Clark. Look at you, you’re a young and beautiful. Whatever your current sugar daddy is offering, I can match it. Just tell me, how much is he paying you? I’ll double it.
Valerie gave him a cold, mocking look. “You? You think you can afford to keep me?”
Owen leered. “Well, well, how would you know if we didn’t give it a shot? I’m not just rich. I also know how to treat a woman right. Way better than th old farts you’ve been with. I’ve fancied you ever since you tutored my son. Now that fate’s brought us together again, why not give it a try?
Valerie’s smile froze into icy disdain. “Get lost.”
Owen blocked her path with a grin. “Relax. My buddy

With that, he reached out, clearly intending to put his hands

“Is that so?” Valerie’s lips curled into a smile as she mimicked his tone. “I gave you a chance, too. Don’t mistake my kindness for weakness.”
With that, she kicked him straight in the groin.
Valerie had excellent reflexes. That kick was lightning–fast and brutally precise, striking right where it would hurt most.
Caught completely off guard, Owen doubled over in agony, a strangled scream escaping his lips.
