Chapter 145
Valerie was a little embarrassed by the repeated apologies and reassurances. She cleared her throat and said, “That’s alright. After all, you’re ble
With heartfelt sincerity, Charlie said, “You’re truly too kind, Ms. Clark. Rest assured, that person will be blacklisted by our corporation.
“May I have the honor of adding you on WhatsApp? Next time you visit, you can contact me directly. I’m the regional manager here, the highest position in this area. Just call me if you need anything; I’ll go above and beyond for you.”
“Um, okay.” Valerie said. She really wanted to say it wasn’t necessary, but seeing Charlie’s eager face, she felt that if she refused, he might just start crying right there.
Hearing her agree, Charlie grinned from ear to ear. After adding her on WhatsApp, he talked Valerie’s ear off, treating her with unbelievably warm familiarity just like long–lost siblings.
As Valerie was about to leave, Charlie had his staff prepare a luxury gift set for her to take home. Not only that, he even offered to personally drive her
home.
Alarmed, Valerie quickly waved him off, hailed a cab, and made her escape.
Everyone at the sales office was stunned, but no one regretted it more than Carolyn, who was the first to serve Valerie. She went home and secretly wept in frustration for ages, and became the butt of jokes at the office for a long time.
After Valerie left, Owen stormed up to Charlie and snarled, “What the hell do you mean by this? Are you seriously going to cross me for that bitch?”
Charlie scoffed contemptuously, “Who the hell do you think you are? Do you even know who that lady is?”
“Who is she?” Owen asked.
“She’s the wife of our corporation’s CEO.”
“What?” Owen burst out laughing, thinking he must have misheard. “Are you kidding? Isn’t she just some broke–ass tutor? She worked at my place last year, always wearing hand–me–downs, too stingy to buy a bottle of water.
“Yet, you’re telling me she’s the CEO’s wife? Your company’s got so many old executives. Whose sugar baby is she? You call her your CEO’s wife? Don’t make me laugh.”
Charlie’s expression turned grave and inscrutable. He warned, “You’d better watch your words. Otherwise, one day you might get ambushed on the street and never know what hit you.”
Owen was startled by his grave expression and said, “You–you’re joking, right?”
Charlie gave him a meaningful look. “I can only tell you that she’s someone you can’t afford to mess with. From now on, steer clear of her.
“The only reason you’re still here is because she’s got a good temper and doesn’t throw her weight around. If it were anyone else who knew how to use their power, you’d already be toast.“,
Owen was utterly shocked, but the deadly serious look on Charlie’s face sent a chill down his spine.
Owen thought, ‘No way. I have to find out who her backer is. Just what kind of powerful connections does she have to make Charlie this wary?‘
Meanwhile, Valerie couldn’t figure out why Charlie was being so unusually hospitable and polite to her.
He claimed it was because he’d let a client get out of hand, which led to their service quality plummeting, and he wanted to make it up to her to restore the company’s reputation. But Valerie couldn’t help thinking there must be more to it than that.
She wondered, ‘If that’s not the reason, then what is it?‘

Chapter 145
Valerie couldn’t figure it out, so she simply decided to stop dwelling orril.
On the way back, Valerie checked the contract again and again. Only after making absolutely sure there were indeed no problems did she firretty lat herself relax.
From now on, she was officially a homeowner.
That property was hers alone. Although she bought it after marriage and it was considered marital property, Aidan was so wealthy that even if they ever divorced, he’d never fight for the house with her.
Valerie could now hold her head high and refuse any support from him. This house was her safety net, the foundation of her independence.
She thought, ‘In a couple of years, I’ll sell this place for a profit, then move to a small coastal town and buy a cozy villa. I’ll get a large breed dog and two cats, and live by the sea where spring blossoms abound.‘
Envisioning her bright future, Valerie couldn’t help but smile to herself.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed. Russell’s name flashed on the screen.
Valerie answered the phone. “Hello?”
Russell asked, “Valerie, are you done for the day?”
“Yes, I’m all done.”
“Great. Do you want to grab dinner? I’m free and bored anyway. Also, I have something to tell you.”
Valerie happened to be hungry and in a good mood, so she readily agreed. “Sure.”
After agreeing on a location, Valerie had her driver change course. When she arrived, Russell was already there.
He was dressed casually today in a hoodie and jeans, looking just like the boy next door.
Spotting Valerie, Russell waved enthusiastically and called out, “Over here.”
Valerie sat down and asked, “Just you here?”
“Yeah,” Russell said as he poured her some coffee, grumbling, “I only arrived in Reano City yesterday, and I’ve been busy non–stop ever since. I finally wrapped things up. Man, I’m absolutely exhausted.”
Valerie glanced at the dark circles under his eyes and teased, “What’s been keeping you so busy?”
He sighed and said, “Don’t get me started. Did I ever tell you I have a sister?”
Valerie had just taken the coffee cup when his words gave her pause. Maintaining a neutral expression, she replied, “No.”
“Well, yeah.” Russell sighed. “My little sister went missing when she was about four or five, and she’s been gone ever since. My mom and grandma have been absolutely frantic, always searching for her.
