Rise Above The Betrayal (Sophia and Tristan) novel Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Zack shook his head, disbelieving, Wait, what? Mr. Y let you pass?”

Others immediately voiced their doubts. That’s impossible! This was the pinnacle of this race!”

Another person nodded vigorously, Miss S, you’re joking, right? Mr. Y doesn’t even know you. Why would he let you win!”

Sophia paused, unsure of how to explain it

The situation on the track had beendelicate. But she felt she was in the best position to understand what had happened

If she were Mr. Y, there was no way she would have made it that easy for anyone to pass

When someone’s behind her, trying to overtake, she would block them, not give them an inch

She and Mr. Y had only raced together briefly, but from her observations, his driving skills were more than capable of preventing anyone from passing

But he hadn’t tried to stop her. That’s what struck Sophia as odd

After she overtook him, he didn’t even try to catch up. He just stopped, as if he’d given up the chase entirely

If the overtake had been a fluke, fine. But for him to just give up. Sophia couldn’t help but wonder what his motives were

Just as the room fell silent again, a voice broke the stillness. Well, I guess I should admit it. Did Flet you win?”

The voice was booming, clear, and laced with a teasing quality that echoed through the quiet underground garage

The white race car that had been competing with the black Bugatti now parked behind is

The door swung open, and a tall, lean person stepped out

He was still in his white racing suit, his helmet already removed, revealing a face that could stop traffic

His dark eyes, like polished black jade, were deep and magnetic, with a hint of mischief flickering at the corners

Miss Shmm?He spoke her name with a languid drawl, his voice low and velvety, as though every word was carefully crafted to stir something deep inside her

Sophia’s gaze snapped up to meet his, and her breath caught in her throat

His eyes were like dark pools, seemingly endless, drawing her in with an almost tangible pull

It was as if they were luring her into a whirlpool, a force too strong to resist

The sensation was unfamiliar, and Sophia’s heart fluttered in a strange, disorienting way. A sense of unease crept up on her aushe furrowed her brow

It’s.. you?she whispered, a hint of confusion in her voice

Sophia recognized him. He was the one she had briefly seen outside the Century Crown Hotel. He had been sitting in his car, giving her a stiff

smile

That face was unforgettableso breathtakingly handsome that it could captivate anyone at a glance, yet his awkward smile had made the contrast Even more striking

was a combination Sophia couldn’t forget

Tristan seemed slightly surprised that Sophia remembered him. His gaze deepened, and in his law, velvety voice, he murmured softly, Miss Koscente, it’s good to see you again–

At that moment, the others standing around them were completely stunned. Their eyes widened as they stared at Tristan, unable to comprehend what was happening

Someone past

gasped, Mr. Years! Youyou’re Mr. Yr

Zack was the first to snap out of his shock. His hands flew to his face, and he let out a sharp, panicked squeal, Oh my god! The Mr. Y who defeated

all my racers and made me lose a fortune? It’s— it’s you?”

By the end of his words, his tone had softened noticeably, a hint of respect creeping in. For someone like Zack, that was an extraordinary level of

deference

In their minds, Tristan had always been the epitome of cool detachmentmysterious and untouchable. Now, as Trisian glanced at Zack sight tilt of his head and a playful smile that tugged at the corners of his lips, he asked, Doesn’t look like me?”

Zack’s heart thudded painfully in his chest

He quickly covered his face, too overwhelmed to look Tristan in the eye again

Inside, Zack was screaming at himself. Don’t make eye contact again! If you do, I might just fall for you

Tristan wasn’t just any ordinary wealthy heirhe was the true kingpin of Virelia’s most prestigious family, the head of the Yeats family

In fact, he was one of the most powerful men in all of Virelia, with influence across the business world, pulling strings behind the scenes in this country, Perino, and beyond

Zack and his friends, the socalled trustfund gangsters of Virelia, were all backed by their prominent families. Tristan, on the other hand, had built his empire on his own. There was no comparison between them, no matter how many huxuries they enjoyed

Zack and the others had often been told by their elders to compete with Tristan, but it never really sank in until no

They were in awe of this man, who had utterly demolished them in both business and, nowof all thingson the racetrack

Zack felt a chill run down his spinenot because of the money he had lost, but because the reality of being bested by Tristan on both fronts was Iruly staggering

In the business world, Tristan crushed them

And now, even in a game of their ownsomething they had assumed was their domainhe had dommated them again

For the first time, they were forced to confront the undeniable truth that they were leagues apart from someone like him

These Virelia’s privileged rich kids, once full of swagger and arrogance, now stood humbly in the face of Tristan’s overwhelming success

Sherry’s eyes darted between Sophia and Tristan, her gaze flickering back and forth with intense curiosity

Sophia could practically hear Sherry’s gossip antennae whirring to life

With a sly, teasing tone, Sherry asked, So.. you know the big boss from the Mr. Yeats family?”

Seeing Sophia’s lack of response, Sherry pressed on. You’re telling me. Mr. Y, the invincible Mr. Y, actually let your win in that race!”

Finally, she rolled her eyes in exaggerated disbelief, adding, So, what’s going on between you two, huh?”

Her voice was full of playful morkery, and her teasing was clearshe was enjoying this more than she probably should have

Sherry’s sudden question sent a wave of embarrassment flooding through Sophia, and she could almost feel goosebumps rising on her skin

She and Tristan had only exchanged a brief glance earliernothing more

But now, with Sherry making such a provocative joke in front of him, it felt incredibly awkward

Sophia found herself wishing the ground would just open up and swallow Sherry whole, anything to stop her from talking

She raised her hand and pinched Sherry’s waist, casting a sheepish glance at Tristan, hoping he hadn’t heard or noticed too much

But of course, the moment her eyes met his, she saw a hint of a strileor something close to itcurving at the corners of his lips

His gaze was deep, like inkblack obsidian, absorbing all the light around him. Under the bright lights of the underground garage, his eyes seemed even darker, almost impossibly so

As soon as he noticed her glance, Tristan straightened, his dark eyes shimmering faimly, like ripples on a still lake disturbed by a soft breeze

For some reason. Sophia felt a soft, unsettling flutter in her chest, as though something delicate had brushed against her heart

She quickly tried to suppress the strange feeling, but despite her efforts, it lingered

Then, Tristan’s voice, deep and husky, filled the air. He spoke slowly, deliberately, as if he had all the time in the world to respond

Miss Roseente and I have met once before. I suppose now we can officially call ourselves acquainted nowsaid Tristan

He paused, his eyes softening as he continued. As for that race…. I respect every opponent, and Miss Boscente’s skill is indeed better than mine.

got to admit that”

He let the words hang in the air for a moment before his gaze sharpened slightly, a lazy smile curling at the corners of his lips. It seems, Miss Hoscente, that you’ll have to take responsibility for my deteriorating reputation now”
