Chapter 24 

Celeste promised to visit Alaric at the Wrenford residence once she recovered.

She took a cab there after handling the preparations for the clinic the next day.

It was already evening by the time she arrived.

Margot wasn’t home. Alaric was the one who welcomed her personally.

A familiar voice sounded from the doorway just as they were about to dig in. “Great–Grandpa,

we’re back.”

Celeste looked up and saw Damien walking in, holding Lucian’s hand as they entered the living

room.

She immediately knew it wasn’t a coincidence when she saw the surprised expressions on their faces. They must have been called back on purpose by Alaric.

“Mom? Weren’t you going to divorce Dad? What are you doing here?”

The implication was clear. She shouldn’t be back at the Wrenford residence since they were about to get a divorce.

She was about to respond before Alaric spoke first. “Lucian, don’t be rude to your mother. Come over here to Great–Grandpa.”

“Okay.” Lucian fell silent and trotted over to him.

“New flowers are blooming in the backyard. I’ll take him for a walk there. Call us when it’s

time for dinner.” Alaric took the child’s hand and walked toward the door before the two of

them could respond.

The housekeeper on the side also followed them out.

Damien and Celeste were the only ones left in the living room now.

They both understood that Alaric had deliberately left them alone with each other.

“Why are you here?”

She tried to shake off his hand, but his grip on her arm tightened. “Mr. Wrenford, I didn’t know you were someone who likes to imagine things.”
