"How could the King still hold back the investigation about what happened? Vemion is still his son, though he was not the Crown Prince." Laluna cried again, as she caressed her stomach. She was due to give birth in the next month, she was so scared and her mood was erratic with the whole matter regarding the fourth prince. The stress was too much for a pregnant woman like her.
"The King doesn’t want to attract people’s attention and muddy the already worse situation in the public’s eyes," Iris said. "That’s what Cane told me."
The relationship between Iris and Cane returned to normal, or as normal as it could get. They didn’t talk about it again, as if they had never had that conversation in the first place, but her decision of what she chose would determine what kind of relationship they would have in the future and Iris still had three days left.
"Still, Vemion is his son. The King is so cold." Laluna wiped her tears, her emotions were all over the place.
On the other hand, Iris felt so bad. She knew Prince Vemion had died and how he died... thus, to come here and have tea with Laluna, while consoling her over her grievances, felt so fake. This made Iris uncomfortable.
This was one thing that Cane wanted to emphasize to Iris. She couldn’t be soft hearted, because she would encounter many more difficult situations in the future.
Iris would be fine if her feeling was genuine when she felt sorry for Laluna, but she knew the truth, she knew too much for her own good and it wrecked her from inside to act pretentious like this.
Cane adored how clear Iris’ emotions always were, there was no underlying meaning behind her actions, nor did he have to read too deep into each word she said.
However, being a good person was not equal to being a good companion. His enemies could use her to get to him and that was the most common method one would use to scheme against their opponent.
"The Alpha is the head of the search party, isn’t he?" Laluna suddenly said, she wiped her tears from her cheeks and grabbed Iris’ hands. "I want to see him. I want to talk to him. Can you help me to meet with him?"
It went without saying, as the King’s special emissary, the King confidently gave the responsibility to Cane to find the fourth prince and calm the public. The King efficiently put all the brunt on the Alpha.
"My mate will have announced it if he found out something." Iris tried to dodge the plea. "You don’t need to worry, Princess."
Instead of calling him as ’the Alpha’ or using his name, Iris went straight to call Cane as ’her mate’. She empathized with Laluna’s situation, but it didn’t mean she was alright with her talking to her mate, knowing how she felt about Cane and the way she looked at him. freewёbnoνel.com
