Redmond could smell Sofia’s scent from behind the door to the Luna’s bedroom, but she was not alone, Maria was there with her to take care of her. The old lady had been taking good care of her, especially after the death of Jemma and she didn’t have anyone to rely on in this pack.
The dispute she had with Iris had sent Kaz and a few other pack members of the Howling Wolf pack to the dungeon and Kaz was the one who was very vocal in supporting Sofia from the moment she arrived in this pack.
Redmond was glad Cane stood up for Iris, but he was not sure what to feel with Sofia’s current situation. She still believed the baby was Cane’s and it irked him to no end, despite what he said about not wanting to be a father. He didn’t think he would be a good one, thus it would be better not to try.
Currently, Redmond was standing outside the door, holding a loaf of bread that was still hot. The pack was in shambles after the battle and countless people had died, thus they needed to strengthen the pack’s protection and make a plan of what they needed to do.
The fact that the royal warriors had waged a war against them, meant the King had decided to eliminate Cane blatantly. The greedy old king wanted his hands on the seven packs under Cane. Redmond could see how Cane became a threat to the King.
"What are you doing here?" Maria suddenly opened the door and saw Redmond. She had sensed his presence a few minutes ago, but because Redmond didn’t make an appearance, she decided to walk out of the room for a while, after she put Sofia to sleep. What happened earlier shocked her and she couldn’t stop crying.
Redmond was startled, he was deep in his own thoughts and didn’t notice Maria approaching him. "Nothing. I only want to give you this." He handed her the loaf of bread in his hand. "Make sure she eats it. There is not much food left because those bastards ruined our storage."
Maria pressed her lips tightly, as she received the loaf, but she couldn’t help it and mumbled under her breath. "Half of the bastards you were talking about were your people." She clearly drew the line between the Howling Wolf pack and the Blue Moon pack here.
What happened yesterday would only add more tension to the relationship between the two packs.
"And I have been here, since yesterday, risking my own precious life to kill my own people," Redmond said sarcastically, he stared down at the old woman. "Does it make you feel better?"
Maria lowered her head even more, avoiding his eyes altogether.
"Next time, if you care so much about your pack, you are welcome to go out and fight with us, because it is so tiring to defend your ungrateful ass."
After saying that, Redmond swiftly left. His emotions were all over the place. He knew he did the right thing by killing his comrades for their betrayal and standing by the Howling Wolf pack people, but it didn’t mean his heart did not ache when he had to kill his men with his own hands. He had known them longer than he knew the people from the Howling Wolf pack, who were still half accepting of himself and Iris.
In his current bad mood, Redmond couldn’t sugarcoat his words. Hell. He didn’t even talk nicely to Cane either until recently, so a mere ’Maria’ wouldn’t hold any value in his eyes.
"Damn! I want to ask how the baby is!" Redmond grumbled begrudgingly because he forgot, but he didn’t want to walk back and face that old woman again.
