Had the Red Claw pack managed to support the baby to retain his given position, Koda would have become the regent by now until the baby came of age to take over the throne.
"This whole situation is so fishy, Abby." Liam grew frustrated. In the public, there was no way he would voice his displeasure over a decision of hers. As her protector, his only duty was to serve, obey and protect her.
However, things between them were more than that. He cared deeply for her, not just because of his duty as the Holy knight.
"I know. That’s why we need to know more about it. The activity of black magic becomes more and more problematic nowadays, you know that as well, Liam. It is my duty to eradicate it."
"Abby..."
"I don’t want to hear any more protests, Liam. Your duty is to protect me, not to advise me," Abby said sternly and it seemed her words had hurt the knight, as his body stiffened and his voice became a little bit cold.
"Apologies for overstepping my boundaries, Serafim. I will take my leave. Have a good rest."
After saying that, Liam turned around and Abby felt a pang in her heart. She hated it when she hurt him and did not listen to him.
They should be in the capital city, but because of the recent power struggle, it was hard to say whether this new king was a safe option, even though Prince Alan was the person who had informed them about the activity of black magic in this continent. However, rumors say that he got involved with black magic too.
More so, Alpha Nolan had disclosed about Lady Cyan and how she was a dark witch, who had killed the previous king while Alan was her son.
Abby curled her body, hugging herself while thinking about the meeting with Alpha Colter tomorrow. From the letters she received, there was something very important that needed to be discussed in person, that was why the Alpha and a few of his people were taking the risk to cross the border to meet her in person.
===========================
Since the day of the attack, Cane had never left Iris’ side, he sent Ethan and a few warriors to learn the situation in the Silver River pack and report it back to him.
Though it was not efficient to do just this and he was used to inspecting everything on his own, he couldn’t bring himself to go out until Iris was in a good condition and he was sure she was out of danger.
It was not that Iris was in a life threatening situation. Grace herself said she only needed to rest, but in Cane’s eyes she was. She looked so pale and lethargic, and most of the time, she would sleep without moving at all.
Out of fear, Cane would put his finger under her nose and could only feel slightly relieved when he could feel her warm breath. He would even place his palm over her chest at times to feel her heartbeat.
"You can control monsters?" Cane asked her on the fourth day. Iris looked a little bit better now and she could hold a long conversation.
"I did it out of impulse." Iris bit her spoon and thought about that. "I think I have done it before..."
She had indeed commanded the monsters to stop out of impulse. And she felt like she had done this before and when she thought about it, she remembered that it was when she saved Ania when they were in the Blue Moon pack’s mines and there was a monster attack.
"I didn’t realize at that time that I could make them stop, but thinking back to it again... I think I did it when there was a monster attack in the palace too when Lou saved me."
Cane scoffed derisively when he heard that. Since Lu refused to admit he was the one who had summoned the monsters in the palace, even though the lycan said proudly that he was the one who escalated the situation, there was no one who could do that aside from Lou, especially when the merchant was actually a magic user too.
And when Cane thought about what kind of benefits the merchant had gotten... he actually bagged a lot of benefits from that incident.
However, Cane was not in the mood to bring him into this conversation.
"How can you do it?" Cane emphasized the main topic.
