Hearing what Cane said, hurt Iris’s heart. She cried even more and rested her head against his chest, while Cane caressed her head. He needed some time to regain his strength.
Everything that happened, had drained the alpha and the weird memories he just walked through left him exhausted emotionally.
"I have never done anything right for you. The thought of me making you cry repeats in my head." Cane ran his fingers through her hair, while his mate was crying. "I am sorry for making life difficult for you. Giving you more trouble to endure. I am sorry for giving you pain which was so uncalled for."
Iris shook her head. "Please, stop. You are hurt too... don’t apologize to me..."
She couldn’t imagine what kind of pain that Cane had to go through to be here and the alpha also felt the same thing, he was very grateful Iris was strong enough to endure everything.
Both of them had been hurt and had gone through their own hell. Life was not fair and they knew that so well now they had walked every milestone in each other’s lives, they knew their own mate better than anyone else. They knew their pain.
"I am sorry, Cane... I am sorry for leaving you alone when you needed me." Iris cried her heart out.
The mate bond between them had broken, but the feeling they had right now was genuine. They cared for each other. They loved their own mate even without the mate bond between them...
"You never left me, Iris. You are always by my side." That was why he was still alive.
In their lowest point, Cane had promised himself that he would end his life the moment Iris was gone. Therefore, she had never left, or else, he wouldn’t be here too.
Iris bit her lip, she clutched his clothes tightly, afraid she was going to lose him. The sound of his heartbeat was really comforting.
It was a bright afternoon and this long battle had not yet ended.
Iris and Cane poured their heart, but this was not the right time, their moment was interrupted when there was this vicious roaring from the distance that shook the ground.
"Luna! The dragon!" Zale shouted, he pointed his finger at the sky, as all of them watched the dragon had healed and was ready for more attack.
"Sorry for the interruption, but can you heal me? This is fucking painful," Lou groaned, he had never this injured before, the thought that devil got a chunk of his flesh made him sick and right now, his vision had blurred. If he didn’t get the help that was needed, Lou was sure he wouldn’t be able to see tomorrow.
What a ridiculous way to die....
Iris lifted her head and straightened her back, she wiped tears from her cheeks and kissed Cane. "I will be right back."
She then went to check on Lou’s condition. She frowned when she saw how bad he was injured, but at the same time, she also knew that she could heal him.
"You look more beautiful when you are worry like that." Lou grinned, but Iris told him to shut up. "Oh, you are crying..." Lou pointed tear that streamed down Iris’s cheek.
"I told you to be quiet," Iris groaned because this merchant talked too much.
"I hope you are crying for me," Lou said and then closed his eyes.
Zale was stunned, he stared at the luna and the merchant back and forth, and then watched how Lou’s wound healed very fast, but the merchant didn’t open his eyes at all.
"Luna... what happened with him...?" Zale asked after Lou’s wound had fully healed, he was afraid Lou was dead. He didn’t like him, but he didn’t want him to die either.
"He will be fine."
Zale whipped his head and saw the alpha came approaching them. He looked a little bit pale, but his complexion looked better now his wound had healed.
"Stay here with him," Cane said and then shifted into his beast form.
Iris knew what Cane intended to do and give the same order to Zale. He needed to stay with Lou, until someone fetched them. Lou would be fine, but he needed to rest. He was not only injured, but had drained his strength after he used his magic power excessively.
After that, Iris climbed on the top of the black beast’s back. She did it naturally, since she had done it very often.
Both the alpha and the luna was heading toward the Silver River pack’s gate, where the dragon had started its attack on their fortress.
Fire could be seen at the north part of the pack, while the monsters outside of the fortress were waiting to be able to enter their last fortification.
Iris prayed, they wouldn’t be too late to save everyone.
From the look of it, there was no way they could fight the dragon, unless this creature descended from the sky and they did the same trick like the lycan had done before and climbed on its back.
However, dragon was a smart and cunning creature, it wouldn’t make the same mistake twice, more so, there was still Dexter, the magic user, who rode on its back. This devil pawn was reeked of vengeance after he witnessed what Cane had done to his woman, Aria.
He wanted nothing else, but did the same thing to him. But, before that, he was going to burn down the entire Silver River pack! He was going to kill all the people by Cane’s side, so he would know what kind of pain he was going through right now!
"Take cover!" Zephyr roared. "TAKE COVER!"
Fire was everywhere and not only at the fortress area, but the dragon easily burned down the pack member’s houses. This majestic creature spared no one in its wrath.
