Cane managed to put the elders at arm length, they couldn’t pressure the alpha to make Iris allowed Rei to stand up and after more than three weeks had passed, their condition became worst.
Even though elder Xarex fed them, but in their position, they couldn’t have a comfortable rest and it started to take a toll on them, especially elder Dandolf, who were the oldest among them all, if you didn’t count the abnormal age that Rei had.
Iris had never visited them, therefore, she didn’t see their current condition or else, she would have folded, her tender heart wouldn’t be able to take such pitiful sight.
"In this rate, we are going to die first before she came," elder Dandolf said, he looked haggard. His face had turned very pale. He was no longer be able to feel his legs, so did the rest of them. "We are going to become cripple."
Rei stared at the sky, this was out of his expectation. He didn’t think Iris would let them stayed like this for long, especially when Lou’s condition didn’t get better. He expected Iris would have come to him and ask for help long ago, but then he miscalculated Cane’s involvement.
The alpha was very ruthless and he could see through his scheme. Damn it.
"How long do you want to do this?" Elder Rose asked. Their mind was very tired, they didn’t even realize that Elder Rose came approaching them. "We are going to leave for Golden Light pack. Are you sure, you are going to continue doing this?"
Rei lifted his head, his green eyes filled with rage, which made Elder Rose took a step back. She hated this man, but his strong presence and his intimidating look was undeniable.
"You don’t need to give me that look." Elder Rose didn’t look like she was in a good shape too. She had been trying to reach out to Abby, but that girl didn’t want to see her at all and she couldn’t go through the warriors. Elder Xarex kept pressuring her about this matter too. "I came here only to inform you this, so you will not waste more time."
"Have she heard about this?"
"I am sure she heard about you, but from the look of it, she really didn’t care."
"What about that magic user?"
"From what I heard, they are still trying to heal him. I am not sure about the progress," Elder Rose replied. She hated him, but she had an obligation to respect him at the same time and this torn her apart. "What are you going to do with this? We are leaving in three hours."
Rei stared at the bright sky out there. Three hours from now, it meant they were going to Golden Light pack at evening.
The reason why Cane insisted for them to go at night was because Iris was having a heavy morning sickness, even with the concoction from Grace, it only alleviated her pain a little bit and Iris insisted she didn’t want to drink too much medicine, in fear it would hurt her babies.
She remembered that she was not allowed to breastfeed her daughter when she was drinking her medicine. Therefore, she chose to endure it and there was no amount of persuasion from Cane and Grace that could change her mind.
It seemed that moment etched at the core of her memories.
In that case, Cane could only do this for his pregnant mate and made this journey easier for her.
"How is your feeling?" Cane asked, nuzzled her cheek. He helped her to get into the carriage, while the sun was almost set and the hue light of red fell on Iris’s face. She looked ethereal and Cane was fascinated by what he was seeing.
Probably because of her pregnancy, or maybe because all this time Cane had not yet seen her enough, but he felt this strong attraction toward his mate.
"I am good," Iris said, she smiled sleepily. She slept most of the time now, at night, she would ask Cane to rub her back, because she felt stiff, until she fell asleep but she would wake up in the morning and threw up because of her morning sickness.
In her previous pregnancy, her morning sickness was not this strong, therefore it was quite tiring for her.
"Go inside, I will come back shortly. I am going to take care of something." Cane kissed her lips, nibbling on her lower lip a little bit longer before he let go. "Stay with her."
"Yes, alpha."
Cane didn’t need to tell them about this, but he only wanted to make sure his mate was in safe hands.
However, not too far from the carriage, Ethan came rushing toward Cane. From the look of it, this was not a good news.
"One of the men died."
"What man?"
"That the man from the pure faction, who has been kneeling down with Rei."
"If he changed his game, maybe." frёeωebɳovel.com
