"Leane..." The name escaped Cane’s lips. He didn’t think he would ever see her again.
For a moment, he was startled. He even forgot the fact that everything he was seeing right now was not real. That the woman before his eyes was not his real destined mate.
The look in her eyes. The way she bit her lip, how she tried not to cry and also how she didn’t even try to reach him like the other two impostors he had met, making everything about her felt surreal.
Instead, Leane was trying to get away from him, she kept her distance from him. Her arms wrapped around her belly protectively and when Cane looked down he saw her pregnant belly, just like how the last time he saw her.
She was as pregnant as her last moment before they slashed her stomach opened and took their son out of her.
This sight, this memory, were still be his worse nightmare until now after the death of his daughters and Iris’s depression.
He started to believe that the pregnancy of his mate was akin to a curse for him. Because everything went so wrong, so fast. If it was not for Amee and Iris, who convinced him maybe he would ask his mate to do the most horrendous thing and lris might never forgive him just like how he would never forgive himself... just like right now.
" Why did you let them do this to me?" Leane asked, her voice was quivering. "Why didn’t you do anything to help me? Why did you let them take away our firstborn? Why didn’t you do something? Why?"
Cane was lost for words, there was nothing he could say in front of Leane, even now he was still trying to deal with the guilty feeling he had in his heart.
He was being thrown away by the guilt of his failure to protect them. That was not his fault. Cane was well aware of that, but sometime what you felt not always in sync with the logic you had.
In his mind, he should be able to do something to protect them, to save their lives. If he didn’t do a certain thing, the result would be different and they might still live right now.
If he did a certain thing, he might not lose them. If he was a little bit smarter and was well aware of his surroundings and could read the situation better, he might be...
The word ’what if’ was killing him slowly. It was like a slow acting poison that corroded his logic and snatched him away from logic and reality.
"How can you just watched and didn’t do anything, cane? Did our son and I mean nothing to you? How could you, Cane?" Leane took a step back, her hands over her belly, as a silent tear, rolled down her face. "You were there when they cut opened my stomach and killed me and our baby in the process."
Of course, Cane knew about that, she remembered the event during the day and his nightmare would remind him if he started to forget. He kept the memory alive.
Cane felt ill because by seeing Leane before his eyes, he felt like he was being in that moment again, lived in his worse memory and there was nothing he could do to change it, especially when blood started to stain Leane’s dress.
The color of dark red oozed out of her stomach, as it under her beautiful white dress, her stomach was being cut opened again.
"I saw you, Cane. I saw how happy you are with your new mate. I can see how ecstatic you are when you learned about the pregnancy..." Leane cried at this point, her whole body was trembling. " How can you forget about me and our baby? How can you forget about us?"
==================================
Rei stared at Iris with so much hatred in his eyes. He was kneeling down, breathing heavily.
"How can you betray me? How can you run away from me after everything that I have done for you? Don’t you love me?"
Iris felt disgusted by the look of him and what he said. She didn’t want to draw a conclusion so fast, but any idea that came to her mind, didn’t sound pleasant at all.
" I have given you everything and I can give you the world..."
At this point, it was unclear, whether Rei was talking to Na, or Iris’s mother, or he was talking to her. He didn’t look right, as if he turned crazy and he only went deeper and deeper, plunging into the darkness.
Rei lifted his head and looked at Iris dead in her eyes. His skin was peeled off and you could see his flesh underneath. His black blood looked very thick, as if he was melted instead of bleeding.
Iris’s surrounding faded away and then disappeared. There was no house here, but instead, they were inside a very gloomy hall with torches on the wall, illuminating the room.
What was this? Was this an illusion? Or the one before?
"What have you done to my mother?" Iris asked. " What did you do to her?"
Iris took a cautious step closer toward him, she was curious about her origin and her mother’s story, but she wouldn’t let her curiosity harmed her and her babies.
The little lights around her were the only thing that kept her mind sharp and beware of her surrounding. They gave her more light to scour this strange place.
Rei tilted his head and a vicious smirk appeared on the corner of his lips. He didn’t even bother to hide his Craziness and his obsession toward Iris, Na.
" I did everything to keep her by my side. I keep her soul alive, so I can find the right vessel for her. My precious, Serafim."
Right at that time, Rei suddenly stood up as he tried to charge toward her, despite the fact it could end his long existence.
