313 Awakening...
Lyla
As we approached the Northern side of the wall, I could see a few of the Ferals had reached the gates, but my own Ferals were holding them back. Behind them, three big Trinax stood quietly, observing.
My elite warriors – the twenty warriors specially trained to fight alongside a Moonsinger formed a tight circle around me the moment I arrived. Killian came to me immediately.
"Orders, Moonsinger?" he asked.
I assessed the situation as quickly as I could. Fighting them head-on with twenty people and a handful of our Ferals would be suicide, even with my powers. I needed at least ten minutes without interruption to get my powers up and running. I needed to reduce their number at least.
"Get me to a higher ground," I decided. "I need a clear line of sight to as many Ferals as possible."
Killian pointed to a watchtower that still stood near the gate. "There."
"Perfect."
We fought our way through the chaos, my guards forming an impenetrable barrier around me and Nanny. Twice we were nearly overwhelmed by Ferals, but each time my guards drove them back with their special crystal weapons.
When we reached the tower, I climbed quickly to the observation platform. From here, I could see the full horror of what we faced. The Dark One's army covered the entire horizon—Ferals, Trinax, and other creatures I couldn't even name.
"Nanny," I said urgently, "I need your strength for this."
She nodded, knowing what I meant. As a high priestess, she could channel energy to me, supporting my voice as I worked.
I closed my eyes, centring myself despite the battle raging below. Then I began to sing—not the gentle healing melody I'd used in the ritual, but something wilder, as always, I didn't know these lyrics. All I had to do prior was to imagine what I wanted to bring to life, and the lyrics came.
This wasn't a song of transformation but of awakening, designed to reach whatever humanity remained in the Ferals' corrupted minds.
The sound carried across the battlefield, amplified by some power beyond my understanding. I felt Nanny's energy flowing into me, strengthening my voice. Below, the nearest Ferals paused in their attack, heads tilting towards the sound of my voice as if they were listening.
"It's working," Killian murmured in amazement.
But then the Trinaxes that had come with the Ferals turned their heads toward the tower, all six eyes fixing on me with what felt like hatred. Before I could guess their next action, they charged at me, smashing through our Ferals as if they were nothing.
"Defend the tower!" Killian shouted to my Elite Warriors.
I couldn't stop singing. The song was working—dozens of Ferals were already standing down, their red eyes were slowly turning normal. If I broke now, they'd revert instantly.
The Trinaxes reached the base of the tower and began to climb, their giant claws tearing through stone and wood. The tower tilted under the new weight, but I couldn't stop either. I could see hundreds of Ferals sitting on their hind legs, staring at me. It was working
"Lyla, we need to move!" Nanny urged.
I shook my head, pouring more power into my song. Hundreds of Ferals were responding now, turning away from our warriors, some were even beginning to shift into their human forms.
The tower continued shaking as the Trinaxes climbed higher. It was only feet away from me when a massive shape slammed into it from the side—Ramsey in war form, nearly as large as the Trinaxes itself. They tumbled from the tower, crashing to the ground in a tangle of limbs and snapping jaws.
I kept singing, even as tears streamed down my face at the sight of Ramsey battling the monster alone. More Ferals were turning, some now actively fighting against their former allies. The tide was shifting, but too slowly.
Nanny grabbed my arm. "New plan," she said firmly ",—the centre of the entrance of the gate. I had Terra work on drawing a ceremonial circle for you, just like how we did before the ritual. Are you ready?"
