At the guest mansion, Yorian started to tell Drayce about his discovery of scrying into Oriana’s powers.
"I discovered that this child’s core possesses both magic and divine power." He then lamented in the end, "My understanding is still shallow as I had never come across such an energy core before. It would be best if I can see another core as areference..." His words were directed towards Drayce as he was sure Drayce must have the similar core.
Drayce understood Yorian’s intentions. "I give you my word that you will get to see another such core."
Drayce’s words didn’t fish much of a reaction from the rest, but it made a smile of anticipation blossom on the elf. Finally! It was this chance that initially made him stick around Drayce’s company in the first place. To think that this young Red Dragon would let him scry into his powers. What would this knowledge-hungry elf want more than this?
The elf then returned to the topic at hand. "Her core holds much potential, but unfortunately, the power inside her remains largely dormant. Think of your magic as a layer of moss, and your divine power as a stagnant pool of water. No matter how large its capacity is, if it’s never tapped, then there is no growth, and there’s even a possibility of it causing harm to its user or her surroundings, since such a state in terms of magic normally equates to ignorance and accidents. It is similar to having another hand you cannot control.
"She is born a witch, thus, her darkness magical attribute is the first thing any supernatural being will notice about her essence. Today, since she used her divine power, it surfaced but both her powers are immature, even worse than Queen Seren’s a few months ago.
"A witch who doesn’t know how to use spells doesn’t qualify as a true witch. This child needs to be trained properly, be it her magic or divine power not only to protect herself but also to prevent future harm."
"Trained?" Oriana asked. She shook her head. "Apologies, Lord Yorian, but I don’t wish to use my powers and pull unknown attention towards me. I am happy with my ordinary life. All I want is to protect my grandpa and live with him in peace."
"Protect your grandpa by putting your life in danger again and again to steal banned herbs?" Drayce spoke up. The way his red eyes stared at her made her shiver.
Oriana had a realization. ’So he knows that was me on that island!’
"I am not harming anyone, Your Majesty. I just need to save my grandpa, and for that, I am willing to do anything," she said politely but there was a determination in her voice. "I am sure for your wife, you will be willing to risk your life as well."
Yorian raised a hand to dispel the tension between the two. "You cannot run from reality, child. Even if you want to, you won’t be able to avoid it for life. There are people who will covet your powers or try to use you. Be it from the standpoint of human beings or supernatural beings, a special person like you will attract attention. It’s better for you to learn about yourself. Who knows, maybe learning witchcraft can help your grandpa better."
As she said earlier, when it came to her grandfather, she was willing to do anything.
"What would I have to do to be trained? Who would teach me?" Oriana asked. "Last time, you mentioned I need a witch with the same attribute..."
"We will find a way, but for that, we will need Prince Arlan’s permission since from my understanding, you attend to his needs day and night. Time has to be arranged—
"No!" Oriana exclaimed, but lowered her voice. "Apologies, Lord Yorian. I mean...we cannot let His Highness know about me, this, whatever this is. If he gets to know I smuggled black nightshade, he will behead me right away."
"Do not worry about it. We will not mention anything about black nightshade," Yorian assured and looked at Drayce. "Isn’t that so, Your Majesty?"
"As long as she properly obeys instructions," came the cold reply from the young king.
Drayce had to be strict as this woman in front of him didn’t know what she possessed and how she could bring chaos if she fell into the wrong hands. Furthermore, she was the destined mate of his friend. It was of utmost importance to protect her.
"Arlan has every right to know the truth, as your master and my friend. I will give you a chance to come clean on your own, but if you don’t, I will tell him everything myself."
Oriana felt her palm turn sweaty at Drayce’s words.
Yorian corrected, "Prince Arlan has no need to know everything, but for us to be able to meet often, he at least needs to know what you are—a witch that needs to be trained."
