Her serious expression turned into a playful one, like that of a naughty child who wanted to break a new toy.
"Oriana, I love to torment others, and if you consistently give me excuses to play with you, I am afraid you will break apart sooner or later. We cannot have that, can we? I am yet to turn you into a proper witch.
"Be more careful, alright? Your teacher happens to have a short temper, so you must adjust accordingly. After all, you begged to have this chance to learn from me. This is what you signed up for."
Her expression changed once more, a face seemingly devoid of emotion or humanity. A symbol of cruelty and a promise of terror.
"One last chance. If you fail or get distracted once more, I will make sure you regret asking me to teach you. Every moment of you with me will be filled with nothing else but torment."
Oriana felt a deep chill within her bones. She thought Rosetta was cunning and wicked, but she only found out how evil and scary she truly was.
This woman was a madness incarnate!
But as she had come to this point, Oriana didn’t want to give up, or more like, she had no option of giving up at all. She had already made an oath. There was too much at stake. She wanted to grow strong and be able to protect her own people.
"Apologies, Teacher." Oriana forced herself to say, even though she was feeling pain all over her body. "I will not let my mind be distracted anymore."
Rosetta let go of her chin and stood up. Her expression returned to normal, akin to that of an elegant noble lady, and not even a smudge of dirt could be seen on her dress.
"You better keep your words. Next time, I won’t hesitate to use a stronger spell to punish you."
’Stronger?’ Oriana wondered. ’Was this a weak spell then? My body was thrown brutally and it hurts everywhere. What is ’stronger’ for this woman then?’
Seconds later, Oriana managed to stand up. She realized she was in pain but she was not injured. It was strange, but everything was strange to an ignorant witch like her.
After a shaky breath, she closed her eyes once more and concentrated on her first lesson.
Under Rosetta’s grudging guidance, Oriana could finally find her energy core.
Within her body, there existed a formless ball of energy surrounded by darkness, the energy as pure as one could find. However, it strangely gave her the sensation that there were two energies within that ball, seemingly half white and half black for lack of better description, thriving together in balance.
"I think I found it. Teacher," Oriana informed with her eyes still closed.
It was a complicated feeling, to discover something you never expected to exist within you, but at the same time, its existence gave one a feeling of awe and joy. A sense of recognition and enlightenment.
While Oriana was still flooded by mixed emotions, Rosetta’s question pulled her back to the ground.
"What do you see?" Rosetta asked, her impatient tone reminding Oriana of her teacher’s personality. She did not want to receive another round of mocking.
