Chapter 318: A Gift

Leaving Arlan’s study, Oriana went to Arlan’s bedchamber where she kept his coat neatly. She removed the broken brooch from his coat and sighed.

’It took me almost two hours to make this and took just a few moments to break it. Next time I will be careful to not touch the brooch...’ she stopped and frowned at herself, ’next time? Am I still thinking about having such a next time with him? There won’t be any next time. I will talk to Queen Seren and ask her to make a proper excuse so he won’t ask to meet lady Ria. I have not gone crazy to go in front of him again as Lady Ria. don’t know what that pervert would do to me this time.’

Oriana left the bedchamber and went to the second floor. She had to do something really important. Saying a goodbye to her teacher and then decide on how she could continue her practice of tapping on her power and learning various other things. Once she would be done with it, she could pay attention to the tantrums Prince would throw on her way.

Oriana pulled out the pendent from her pocket and called for her teacher.

In no time, Oriana heard the woman’s voice. "Already in a hurry to get rid of me after learning a few things from me?"

Oriana turned to look at a noble looking beautiful woman in an elegant long black dress appeared in the room. She was standing by the window, looking at Oriana with her brow raised and spoke again, "Are those few things even enough when it’s just a small drop from the sea of skills and knowledge?"

Oriana didn’t argue this time but said, "I know it’s not enough and I am far from being skilled, but I believe my teacher will keep guiding me. Despite the distance between us, she will come to this lowly student."

Rosetta, not really impressed by these polite words from her willful and stubborn student, chuckled loudly, "Suddenly acting so submissive to curry more favors from a teacher?"

"Not currying a favor but isn’t it the teacher’s responsibility to teach their student well? I look forward to my teacher fulfilling her responsibility. I can not let my teacher’s name being smeared with the stain of failing to teach her student properly. Can not bring shame to my teacher."

"That smart tongue of yours," Rosetta frowned, "I should have asked to cut that tongue in exchange for my teaching. Would have saved my ears from listening to crap."

"I believe the oath of blood is enough. I can leave without magic but not without this tongue. It has helped me with sweet and smart talking and helped me survive in the harsh world."

"Sure I can’t doubt it," Rosetta said helplessly, seeing how her student was good with words.

Oriana observed that today Rosetta was not so cold like she always acted but looked a little soft even when she tried to be mean with her words. Oriana found it amusing.

’Can this wicked woman really have even a little bit of soft side? She can’t, right? Or may she has it but hides it behind her coldness.’

"Though we will be parting ways tomorrow, you know how to call for me," Rosetta spoke, pulling back Oriana’s attention to the important matter.

"Yes. Once I return Griven, whenever I find a suitable time, I will call for you."

Rosetta didn’t comment and put forward her hand and something appeared on her palm. It was a small rectangular wooden block like pendant which had some ancient rune’s carved on it’s four sides. There was a thick black string attached to it.

"Your hand," Rosetta looked at Oriana’s right hand.

Without any hesitation, Oriana lifted her hand in front. Though this woman was wicked, Oriana didn’t know how she slowly came to trust her and knew she would not harm her.

Rosetta held Oriana’s right hand and tied that black thread with a wooden rectangular pendant to Oriana’s wrist. Once tied it, she swapped her hand over it. A black smoke emitted from the pendent and surrounded Oriana’s wrist.

Oriana didn’t feel scared but waited to know what was going on. In a moment that black smoke disappeared from her wrist and centred towards the tiny spot on inside of her wrist.

A tiny mole-like sign was formed on the inside of her wrist. It was not a mole but a tiny imprint of that pendent.

Oriana looked at her wrist and touched that mark with her finger, "What is it?"

Rosetta chuckled, "I thought you would be screaming out thinking I had done something wrong to you by using my magic."

"Even though you might want to do something wrong with me, I am sure it’s not the time yet." Oriana answered, not a tinge of fear or hesitation in her eyes and her voice.

Rosetta eyed her smart student and a mocking smile appeared on her lips. Knowing she had ulterior motives, this young witch bravely threw herself at the danger.

’Brave! My student should be nothing but be brave, without a tinge of fear.’

Rosetta explained, "This is one of the most powerful ancient artefacts made from ’Absolute Darkness’."

"Absolute darkness?" Oriana asked, seemingly puzzled.

Rosetta understood her question. "The most powerful attribute which is much more powerful than the kind of darkness we mortal world supernatural possesses. The absolute darkness originated from the depth of hell belongs to the Devil, the only true owner of it. He is the most powerful, the absolute, that not even gods can defeat him."
