With a myriad of questions swirling within him, Yorian posed yet another, his gaze fixed intently on Evanthe. "Evanthe, Oriana’s identity as a Witch remained concealed. I suspect your hand in this. Can you shed light on our shared past?"
Evanthe had already guessed she would be asked about it and started to explain. "As the reigning Queen of the witches, I was privy to the prophecy of a forthcoming Queen’s birth. Alongside me, other influential witches were informed of this momentous event. The entire witch clan eagerly anticipated the emergence of their new Queen that year. While the birth of a new Queen was a cause for jubilation, there was an underlying concern that shadowed this joy.
"This prospective Queen bore the mark of the Black Witch. Aware of the likes of Zaria and how they could exploit such power, I felt compelled to shield her from malevolent intentions. On the night of the New Moon, within the Verner family’s confines, the Queen of Witches came into existence. I stood witness to her birth, deploying my abilities to veil this pivotal moment, ensuring no prying eyes or powers could discern the birth of our future Queen.
"Subsequently, I utilized my abilities to cloak her very presence, allowing her to grow up immersed in the semblance of a normal life alongside her family. Other than Oriana’s mother, no one was aware of my intervention. I refrained from revealing the true nature of her daughter’s abilities to Amaya, but I did impress upon her the significance of keeping Oriana concealed. Amaya, astute in her own right, likely pieced together some truths. She honored my wishes, ensuring Oriana remained hidden from the world’s prying eyes.
"I hid the Queen the way as if to make the Witch clan doubt about her birth whether she was even born or not. It made it easier to hide her."
Evanthe’s revelations merely confirmed the suspicions that had long lingered among them.
"Evanthe," Yorian pondered aloud, his brow furrowing with curiosity, "Did you never consider bringing her to the witch clan in Agartha?"
Evanthe gently shook her head, her expression resolute. "Taking her to Agartha meant exposing the Queen’s existence to the world of supernaturals and especially to each and every witch in existence. Then, there was no meaning in hiding her. Moreover, Zaria is powerful enough to enter the Agartha and take her away. We had seen the extent of her power during the last war as if she had become powerful all of a sudden. The power that doesn’t belong to the human realm is helping her. If she had to use that power again, I was worried she would get her hands on the new Queen. So I preferred to hide her from everyone and left her to her destiny. As a white witch, I could not do much for her other than protecting her by hiding her existence and not letting her fall into wrong hands."
Yorian absorbed her words, his understanding evident. "Evanthe," he continued, his voice tinged with lingering curiosity, "Oriana’s mother, had a witch Edna serving her closely. Yet, to our astonishment, this servant remained oblivious to Oriana’s true nature. How did you manage to obscure such a significant event from her, especially if she must be present by her master’s side during Oriana’s birth?"
Evanthe’s eyes held a hint of recollection. "At the time of Oriana’s birth, my senses were acute. Had there been another witch present, I would have discerned it. I distinctly recall that all attending servants were mere mortals; no other witch lurked amidst them."
Yorian raised an eyebrow in intrigue. "Absent during the birth, yet you encountered later?"
