Chapter 494: Mother’s Promise

Oriana, still sobbing like a child, lifted her head to look at Yorian. "My mother?"

Yorian chuckled, appreciating the beauty of her face, now a bit disheveled. He nodded and gently fixed her hair, which had clung to her sweaty face. "If you’re ready to let go of me, we can head over there."

Oriana immediately released him and moved back, showing no embarrassment about holding onto him for so long while shedding tears. Instead, she inquired, "Where is my mother’s room?"

"Come with me," Yorian said, holding her hand as he guided her out of her grandfather’s room.

Allowing herself to be led, Oriana followed like a child.

They crossed the semicircular hallway, heading towards the opposite side of the same floor. Entering a vast and exquisitely decorated room, they found a space that exuded feminine charm. It seemed that Amaya, Oriana’s mother, had been the cherished princess of her father. The room reflected both the owner’s elegance and maturity, as well as a lingering sense of innocence.

Oriana surveyed the chamber and realized that everything in the room resonated with her own taste. Was it because the room’s inhabitant had been her mother, and, as her daughter, Oriana naturally gravitated towards similar preferences?

She strolled further into the room, scrutinizing every detail. Numerous vases adorned the space, although they were conspicuously lacking flowers, suggesting her mother’s fondness for them. The centrally positioned bed boasted delicate craftsmanship, surrounded by finely crafted furniture. A lovely dresser stood on one side, accompanied by a long mirror and a stool in front of it.

Contemplating her reflection in the mirror, Oriana wondered, ’Do I resemble my mother?’ A sudden realization prompted her to turn to Yorian. "Since it’s my mother’s room, there must be a portrait or something, right?" Her eyes betrayed a desperate longing to see the face of the woman who had given her life.

"There must be," Yorian affirmed, observing her meticulous search through the room after she had thoroughly examined her surroundings. One by one, she began inspecting the drawers, only to find them disappointingly empty.

Oriana approached the wooden cupboard in the room and attempted to open it. However, the drawer resisted her efforts, being securely locked. Without hesitation, she cast a spell, and the drawer yielded to her command, opening with ease.

Yorian smiled, appreciating her adept use of magic. Ordinarily, she might have sought his help, but now she demonstrated a newfound independence.

Within the drawer, she discovered a long wooden box. Hoping to find something significant, she carried the box to the bed. Seated there, she opened it, revealing a paper scroll. Her hands trembled with a mixture of excitement and anxiety, wondering if this could be her mother’s portrait.

Observing her hesitation, Yorian approached, took the paper scroll from the box, and unrolled it after removing the red ribbon tying it. As he perused the contents, Oriana gazed at him with a hopeful yet anxious expression.

"Is it my mother’s portrait?" she inquired.

Yorian handed the scroll back to her, shaking his head. "It’s your betrothal agreement with Prince Arlan."

With trembling hands, Oriana grasped the paper, but the moment her fingers made contact, a flash enveloped her vision, and she instinctively closed her eyes. Memories associated with this piece of paper flooded her mind.
