The Devil's Betrothed novel Chapter 522

Chapter 522: Arlan’s Reasons

Suddenly, Snowflake halted her rolling and dashed toward the manor’s entrance, where a tall figure emerged.

"King Drayce?" Oriana whispered in surprise, glancing at Arlan for confirmation.

"Last night, the chaos you and his wife caused, he brought Seren here instead of taking her back to the guest mansion at the palace. Megaris’ entourage departed the capital today, and he had no intention of journeying by road. Once Seren is well, he’ll teleport back with her," Arlan explained.

"Why didn’t you inform me Her Majesty was here? I would have paid her a visit," Oriana complained.

He arched a brow. "Would you have wished to disturb her while Drayce was attending to her personally? He prefers to care for her without interruption."

"Ah, I will keep in mind," she replied, watching as Snowflake happily bounded toward Drayce, who tenderly patted and stroked her head.

The wolf sat tall, lifting her front legs in joy. She approached her head closer to Drayce’s face. Drayce placed his hands on either side of her head, then gently touched his forehead to hers, both closing their eyes as if relishing this act of affection.

"What’s she doing?" Oriana inquired as they approached Drayce.

"It’s her way of expressing and seeking affection from someone she cares for. She doesn’t display this gesture for just anyone," Arlan answered.

"And you?"

He chuckled. "Do you even need to ask?" His gaze seemed to suggest that Snowflake loved him the most. "But it’s also the means by which Drayce can connect with her and scry into her soul. That is what he is doing at this moment other than just reciprocating her affection."

"Have you ever attempted scrying?" Oriana inquired.

"I never felt inclined to embrace my other side, so I didn’t see the need to learn it," he replied.

As they drew nearer, they overheard Drayce speaking to Snowflake after parting from her, "It’s good to see you are healthy as usual. The magic within you seems to be growing stronger," he said, smiling gently at her and tousling her fur. "And you’re becoming even more beautiful."

Oriana was surprised. She whispered to Arlan, "I never imagined he could be so tender to anyone other than his wife."

Arlan chuckled. "Am I any different? Aside from you, I reserve my sweetness for the females in my family, and that includes Snowflake."

Drayce glanced at the two as he continued to stroke Snowflake.

"Have you discovered anything useful about her this time?" Arlan inquired.

Drayce shook his head. "Not yet."

"What’s the point of having those abilities then?" Arlan teased.

"It’s not that my abilities are lacking, but the females around you are simply too mysterious."

Drayce’s remark clearly included Oriana as well, who could only remain silent. She herself was unaware of her abilities and her true nature, so if her existence came as a shock to others, she couldn’t blame them.

"My mother and Yorian might be able to see through her. Once they’re here, you can seek their assistance," Drayce suggested.

"Is Lady Evanthe visiting again?" Oriana inquired.

Drayce nodded. "She’ll be around until we’re certain you’re alright."

"Is there something you need help from his mother with?" Arlan questioned.

Oriana nodded, but upon hearing Arlan’s prompt, she hesitated. She didn’t know how to articulate it. She required assistance in concocting medicine for her grandfather, and only Evanthe could provide swift aid. However, expressing this to Arlan might upset him.

"Just something minor," Oriana replied, deflecting the question.

Observing her reluctance, Arlan refrained from pressing further, and Oriana promptly shifted her focus to Drayce. "Is Her Majesty awake?"
