She inhaled deeply to calm herself. She told her father that she would apologise to him if she had offended him by any way, but she could not come to apologies just because he was now a lord. In her eyes, she had done nothing wrong. All she wanted was not to have anything to do with him at this moment and end up doing something she shall be apologised for.
She turned to look at him. "As far as I remember, this is not the last day. You still have a few more days left for your month to finish."
"I compensated those days with being pricked and paralyzed by Lady Erin," he replied. "After calculations, only one day’s worth of salary was left from the compensation I should have received from you."
She scoffed inwardly at his explanation. ’Compensation? He should be thankful that I stopped him from doing something wrong.’ She didn’t want to argue with him as their statuses had changed now. "Then you can return the remaining one day’s worth of salary and go back. You don’t have to be my bodyguard for that small amount."
"I have already spent my salary, and there is nothing left to return to you." He continued, unfazed by her reluctance.
She almost rolled her eyes. "Lord Rainier, do you realize you are probably one of the richest people in the kingdom right now, based on all the gold and silver you got from Luis? And you say you don’t have..."
"I do not use that gold and silver for my personal expenses," he interrupted her calmly.
Erin found him stubborn, but she was no less so. "Then borrow it from someone and pay it back, and then leave."
"I do not like borrowing money from anyone. That implies I am not capable enough to take care of my own needs."
She felt helpless in front of him and wanted to ask him, ’Are you for real?’ But she swallowed her frustration once more and asked, "You receive quite a good amount as your salary. Where did you spend all of it before the month’s end?"
"When I signed up to become Lady Erin’s bodyguard, nowhere was it mentioned that giving an account of my personal expenses was necessary."
She gritted her teeth. ’Can this man be any more annoying?’
"So, you are adamant about being my bodyguard today and won’t give up?" she concluded.
"I am simply adamant about fulfilling my job," he replied calmly once more.
"Very well," she clenched her fists, "get me a carriage, then. Today I plan to roam around the entire city and shop in the market."
Lucian, unaffected, carried out her order, and soon the carriage was ready. He opened the door of the carriage for her, waiting for her to enter.
Bree helped her climb into the carriage and followed her inside. She was shocked that her master suddenly wished to roam around the city. It seemed like Erin was trying to get back at her bodyguard, who was not willing to give up.
Walys was ready to head to the royal court for an important day when the King was going to announce the punishment for the other ministers. His son Euron was accompanying him. Just as they reached the carriage, something caught their attention.
"Is that him?" Walys asked, confused.
"That sure is him," Euron replied confidently.
