"Sorry for troubling Mr. Chalmers today. It's quite late, so I won't disturb you any further; I'll come back first thing tomorrow morning to apologize."
Scarlett decided to clean up the little fox when she got back.
Tomorrow, she must show the boss a clean and pristine Pretty Hamilton.
Samuel watched her serious expression, his face still largely expressionless, and just gave a slight nod before instructing the butler who was standing nearby.
"Please take Miss Jennings home."
The butler nodded and courteously led Scarlett out. Even though they were all in the same area, he considerately had a security vehicle patrol take her and her little fox all the way to the front door of the Jennings home.
The butler who came in response was a bit dumbfounded seeing Scarlett.
He had no idea when the young lady had gone out!
Moreover, what the young lady was holding in her arms seemed to be a fox?
"Miss, this is..."
After sending off the Chalmers' bodyguard, the butler looked at Scarlett and the little one in her arms, not sure which to ask about first.
Noting that Scarlett was wearing light clothing, he hurriedly let her into the house.
As soon as she entered, Donovan Jennings was seen waiting for her at the stairway.
Around the corner of the second-floor staircase, Lucas Jennings was sticking his head out, clearly enjoying the drama.
Upon Scarlett's entrance, he immediately noticed the thing in her arms and couldn't help but lower his voice accusingly,
"What, what is that thing in your arms? Our family doesn't allow pets with fur inside!"
Scarlett glanced at the boy who was always keen on making his presence felt and simply countered with a straight face,
"If pets aren't allowed, then how come you're here?"
Lucas's expression froze, filled with naive stupidity, and Donovan couldn't help but chuckle.
Realizing his own misstep, Lucas's face turned red with anger about to explode,
"You!..."
"It's late, I suppose Grandpa and the others must be asleep by now?" Scarlett's casual comment extinguished Lucas's ready-to-burst volcanic anger instantly.
Though reckless, he always knew when to be impetuous and when not to be.
No noise after dark, that was the rule of the Jennings Family.
Not to mention Grandpa went to bed early, being suddenly awakened wouldn't be good for an old man's health.
Even though Lucas was furious enough to burst at that moment, he had no choice but to hold back his anger, huffing as he turned and tiptoed upstairs.
Watching Lucas leave, Scarlett then turned to look at Donovan, dropping the confrontational stance she had with Lucas.
Holding the little fox in her arms, she pursed her lips and said,
"This is the pet fox I've been keeping. It knew I moved and came to find me."
She paused, then added,
"I rented a place for it outside, it will just stay here for the night, and I will take it away early tomorrow morning."
Meaning, she wouldn't cause any trouble for the family.
Listening to her, Donovan felt a faint pain in his heart.
Clearly, this little fox had always been hers, yet she kept it outside – definitely because the Garrison Family didn't allow it.
Now that she finally returned home, she hadn't even considered keeping it with her again.
Her cautious demeanor pained Donovan, and beyond that pain, he felt a deep irritation towards the Garrison Family.
