Those men after Xavier were clearly following orders. They knew that Xavier was my son, but they did not know that I'd be here.
The police did not interfere since they were clearly in cahoots.
"Mr. Joplin." Murphy was late to the party since he had to pick Yvonne up. Yvonne immediately pulled Xavier into her arms, hugging him tightly and kissing him.
"Are you alright? You've given me a fright. Why are you here alone? Who told you to come?" Yvonne asked while sneaking glances at me. What was she trying to get out of Xavier?
Xavier broke free from her hugs. He held my hand and looked at her. "Mommy, I came on my own."
"Xavier?" Yvonne looked at him incredulously.
I had no time for her. I handed Xavier to Lorraine and instructed Murphy to take those men away.
"Question them properly. I want to know who's behind this."
They must have studied Xavier's every move. If not, they would not have found out so quickly that Xavier had come looking for me.
Who was it? Was it his teacher or someone at home?
The possibility of it being a teacher was small, but there was surely a traitor among them. My expression was ugly seeing Yvonne harassing Xavier.
Xavier missed Yvonne too, so he was not repulsed by her actions. He let her get close to him.
Lorraine and I walked behind them with a grim expression.
"Ms. Langley, where will you be staying tonight?"
The same thing happened the last time too. Yvonne came out of the blue and had no place to stay. I got Murphy to book a room in advance. It was not as lavish as my room, but it still had a huge bed.
At the hotel, Yvonne was not willing to sleep in her room.
"Let Xavier sleep with me."
