The Heartless Ex-Wife novel Chapter 16

Chapter 16 The Confrontation

Eliezer remained silent.

The answer was obvious.

Lindsey sneered, and she raised her hand and poked him lightly in the chest.

Since you want to marry her, hurry up and finish the divorce. Stop wasting that girl’s time waiting for you. As for me, I know exactly what I’m doing. I don’t need your lectures. Even if the divorce isn’t finalized, you have no right. Once it is, you have even less.

With that, she took two steps back.

The emotion on her face vanished completely.

Go back. I don’t want any more ties with you, and I certainly don’t want to invite any trouble to myself.

They had already signed the divorce agreement, and yet Jaelyn had still hired someone to violate her. If she kept any ties to Eliezer, who knew what kind of trouble might come her way next?

She could let what had happened in the past slide. But if they kept coming after her, she wouldn’t be so forgiving next time.

Eliezer didn’t leave, his handsome face grim.

In his twentysomething years of life, people always lined up to butter him up. This was the first time someone had called him trouble.

And it came from Lindsey, the girl who used to cling to him since they were kids!

Unwilling to let it go, Eliezer stepped forward, only to be blocked by Brayden.

Mr. Woodward, don’t be so greedy. When you already have a girl in your arms, stop peeping around. My Lindsey’s already made her position. crystal clear. If you keep pestering her, this is going to get ugly.

Eliezer completely ignored the man in front of him, his eyes locked on the emotionless Lindsey. Are you sure you don’t want to come home with me?

Lindsey lifted her gaze. Mr. Woodward, just stop it. You know I’ve had a crush on you since we were kids. It took everything I had to finally let go and give you and Jaelyn my blessing. Why are you saying things like that to me now? Aren’t you afraid I’ll latch onto you again? When that happens, you might not even be able to get divorced. Do you want to spend your life with a woman you don’t even like?

Go home.

What a luxury those two words had become.

The first year she was exiled abroad, she’d foolishly hoped Eliezer might have feelings for her and that one day he’d come to get her.

But he never did.

He didn’t even make a single phone call to check in. So, how could he possibly come take her home?

He only wanted her to disappear.

As Lindsey thought of the past, her eyes turned cold. Mr. Woodward, you said it yourself that if it weren’t for your grandfather, you would never have married me. Now you’re stalling on the divorce. What’s the point?

Eliezer was still caught up in her earlier question.

in The Comhantation

For a moment, he thought it wouldn’t be so bad to have her cling to him like she used to when they were kids.

But reason quickly rose up in conflict with that thought.

Lindsey’s final words struck him like a blow. Marrying her had only been because of his grandfather’s pressure. He shouldn’t continue something he never wanted.

The aggression in his demeanor faded, and his voice softened.

I know whether we should divorce or not. But I can’t just stand by and watch you go down the wrong path. The Oconnell family kicked you out. If you need money, come to me. My grandfather always cared about you. If he were still alive, don’t you think he’d be disappointed to see what you’ve become?

What she’d become? What exactly had she become?

So, finding a rich boyfriend meant she was going down the wrong path?

Well, in their eyes, she was an orphan, hanging out with street thugs. How could she possibly have a friend like Brayden?

Lindsey found the idea amusing. Mr. Woodward, according to your logic, isn’t spending your money the same as spending Mr. Richmond’s money? If it’s the same, why shouldn’t I find someone who makes me happy?

Lindsey!

Eliezer’s anger flared up again.

Lindsey nonchalantly picked at her ears. I can hear you. Both ears are working fine.

People were already starting to leave the building for a meal, and soon there would be even more coming and going. Lindsey didn’t want to

continue arguing with Eliezer. Maybe he wouldn’t feel embarrassed, but she would.

It seemed that the contract wouldn’t be signed today. If she really went into the office with Brayden, those two would probably end up fighting.

She didn’t want Brayden’s hand to get hurt in the process.

Turning to Brayden, Lindsey said gently, You go upstairs and apply some medicine. I’m meeting Tamia for lunch. If I don’t leave soon, I’ll be late.

Brayden immediately responded, I’m coming too! I was just about to ask. Ms. Patrick if she’s in Ms. Patrick if she’s interested in signing with Lunaris. Let’s go together.

Eliezer’s gaze swept over them. I’m sure Ms. Patrick won’t mind me joining. The Woodward Group also wants to discuss a possible

advertising endorsement with her.

Neither of you is coming with me!

Lindsey snapped, If you need to discuss work, make an appointment for another time. What’s with disturbing our meal time?

With a huff, she put her sunglasses back on and turned to leave.

Her white BMW quickly disappeared from sight.

Brayden clicked his tongue and was about to turn back toward the company when Eliezer called out to him.

Mr. Richmond, I apologize for the offense today. Lunaris Entertainment hasn’t been established for long in Rivendale, but if you ever need any assistance, don’t hesitate to ask. The Woodward Group will never refuse. However, I hope you’ll leave Lindsey alone.

Brayden looked back with contempt written all over his face.
