liza paused as she looked at him.
Komeel continued, “You can call me ‘Boerkamp.”
Upon hearing that name, Eliza raised an eyebrow slightly.
From what Gilbert had told her, the foreign tribes were made up of several different groups, with the Soulbind Tribe being the largest, leading the others. Most of them carried the surname “Case”
But before the Soulbind Tribe, the foreign tribes had once had a royal family, which was wiped out in the turmoil over a decade ago. None survived.
And the royal family of that kingdom… had the surname “Boerkamp.”
Combined with Korneel’s claim to be “prince“, Eliza was a little suspicious.
But as she carefully studied Korneel’s features, she found no trace of foreign heritage in his appearance.
Did she overthink it? Was Korneel intentionally playing this game? Or was he mixing truth with lies to confuse her?
Unable to figure it out for the moment, Eliza decided to push the doubt aside and continue, “You don’t have to keep testing me. I’m here to find a benefactor. Your people took my benefactor, brought him here, so it’s not strange that I came, right?
“If you’re planning to make a move, I have no choice but to fight for his life with mine.”
Eliza smiled, her seemingly innocent eyes holding an unspoken meaning.
Korneel raised an eyebrow, “I wonder, who exactly is this benefactor of yours?”
Korneel thought she was talking about Hubert, but the next moment, Eliza pointed towards the courtyard.
Following her finger, Korneel saw a man trembling on his knees in silence–Vaughn.
“Him?”
Korneel was taken aback and ordered his men to help Vaughn up.
Vaughn, initially confused, almost lost his soul when they grabbed him by the arm and lifted him.
But when he heard the conversation, he looked at Eliza in bewilderment and said, “I… I’m your benefactor?”
How could he not remember such a thing?
And he had never met Eliza before.
Korneel observed his reaction and raised an eyebrow, “Looks like this doctor doesn’t remember you. Perhaps you’ve made a mistake?”
Eliza shook her head, “I didn’t make a mistake. You’re Vaughn from Healing Hall, right?”
Vaughn nodded in dazed agreement, “Yes, it’s me.”
Eliza was right.
Initially, she hadn’t known, but her little ones had spread across most of Vollult Town.
Finding Vaughn’s identity was no trouble at all.
Eliza smiled, “Do you remember a year ago, a middle–aged man fell into the river by the East Riverbank, unable to swim, nearly drowning? He was rescued, but he was on the brink of death. You were the one who saved him, and that’s how my father lived. After that, my father returned home, and because of some family matters, I’m only now able to thank you for saving him.”
Vaughn had not realized at first, but as Eliza spoke, it became familiar.
Father, middle–aged man, riverbank, unable to swim…
Vaughn’s eyes widened, “Wait, are you the daughter of that… that old scholar who fell into the water?”
Vaughn almost blurted it out in his excitement, but quickly caught himself.
“Old scholar…” Hubert’s scholarly appearance certainly resembled an old scholar.
