The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 290

Nobody was distressed over Nolan tossing the priceless Crystal of Devotion into the trash since it was merely a knockoff to them. His act was seen as a sign of guilt and an attempt to avoid inspection out of fear of being exposed.

If anyone in the room felt anything, it was Audrey. It pained her to watch Nolan's icy gaze and the determination with which he discarded the jewelry. She knew that her actions had hurt Nolan and that Nolan would never forgive her. It was torturous to her.

She wanted to rush to the trash, retrieve the jewelry, and tell him how much it meant to her, but she couldn't bring herself to act.

"Nolan, what are you doing? Feeling guilty, are you? You threw it away because you didn't want it to be inspected, but did you really think you could avoid the consequences like that? How naive!" Megan taunted.

Shaun laughed and added, "Nolan, and here I thought you were something impressive. Looks like you're just childish."

Shaun then turned to Nick with a grin. "Mr. Hance, it looks like there's no need for you to authenticate anything. His actions already speak for themselves."

Nick nodded, then looked at Nolan with a slight smile. "Mr. Nolan, I must admit, this is an unexpected approach. But even if it's in the trash, there are surveillance cameras everywhere. If I decide to pursue this, I doubt you'd be able to evade responsibility."

Nolan merely pointed at the trash can and commented indifferently, "I told you, the item's right there. You're welcome to inspect it anytime. If you're interested, go ahead and dig it out."

Nick narrowed his eyes, lowering his voice as he spoke to Nolan. "Mr. Nolan, you seem quite hostile toward me. In all my years, I've yet to encounter anyone this bold. Seems like you're the first."
