Technically, the summoning went well this time.
Obviously, it helped that Luca had managed to stay awake to properly greet the summoned elder—a giant improvement from when he passed out the first round.
It was just that, when asked about being willing to attend to ranch animals, they were surprised to hear him reverse the question with the solemnity of a deity delivering judgment.
"Would you be able to commit to taking care of these animals?"
It wasn’t sarcasm.
Nor was it doubt.
But mainly concern and a sense of responsibility for starting something that would affect the lives of several beings.
And if they were just doing this on a whim, then the Elder might as well disintegrate rather than risk innocent creatures.
Everyone in the room paused.
And even Jax—who had previously treated the idea of raising cows for butter—straightened up and nodded gravely as if realizing the weight of this mission.
Ideally, the original plan was to buy as much as they could after upgrading the necessary facilities.
For one, Luca had anticipated a few items, like issues with pasture, hay, grain, and even alfalfa, so he asked the Elders to deal with these in advance. And they delivered.
Even the manure was accounted for.
While he hoped the barn would have the same features as the coop, he had also considered ways to deal with it in case it didn’t turn out as expected.
If anything, that was one thing he was confident in, as it was his main task back in Tesseris, for he wasn’t allowed to "contaminate" the livestock.
It was just that he might have forgotten how much work was required to actually take care of such animals. And how everyone else hadn’t even seen a cow before.
But they knew this was a necessary step.
Elder Pao Xi sighed and suggested a way to do this with the least ramifications.
He asked to buy one Milk Cow.
"!!!"
Just one, for if they couldn’t handle this one, then they better not think about pushing through.
It was a highly anticipated moment. And for a time, the young lads wondered if this was how parents felt about the birth of their kids.
Though undeniably, they likely wouldn’t be dropped into the field like that.
It was done gently, but the people waiting around almost knelt as the cow gently landed on the ground.
There were so many things to gawk at. Starting from that golden-brown hide with soft white patches that definitely did not resemble the milk-producing beasts of today.
Then there were those large expressive eyes that blinked at the unsuspecting victims.
The cow was plump, and each time it moved, that tail would wag every so often, effectively hypnotizing the awaiting audience.
But while the others started fighting for naming rights, Luca managed to isolate himself from the noise as he gawked at something very particular.
Around the cow’s neck was a leather tag.
"Lulu", it read.
Now, the problem wasn’t the name. The problem was how it was written. Those characters were something that only he could read.
"D-29, do you know why and how the Trove sells cows from Tesseris?" asked a concerned Dungeon Master.
"Host, about this, I am unable to check as of now. Every time I attempt to run a query about this, it returns it with an access denial."
"Hmm." Luca found that somewhat concerning, but when he came to think of it, he could source items he was familiar with; he just didn’t know it would sell something to this extent.
But if it kept saying "access denied", then didn’t that mean there was at least something to access?
Surely?
Right?
Luca’s musings, however, were cut short by the unfazed Lulu, who gave a resoundingly cheerful moo.
Clearly, even a Tessarian cow could appreciate the grass of the Dungeon Space.
"Lulu," called Luca, who tried to see if this was just a coincidence, but calling her by name always got a response.
Thus, the battle for naming rights forcefully ended, and Jax and Ollie could only sigh in defeat.
But who would’ve thought they’d face a more critical battle this soon?
It was because Lulu kept on nudging at Luca.
"Brother, is Lulu all right? Why does she keep doing that?" Asked a worried mop who seemed too affected by the majesty of Lulu, the milk cow.
"She’s uncomfortable, so we might have to milk her. Although it might have to be one of you since these bones would likely be cracked by her in anger."
Uh-huh. fгeewebnovёl.com
Phew! Thank goodness!
