Marquise Julienne realized that this was really her child after looking at her husband, who had the same confused look.
Okay, fine.
Of all the things to inherit, did it really have to be selective blindness?
It was the problem of these observant Mylors who liked dipping their hands in what spoke to their souls.
But what to do when screaming at their souls won’t even work? Just like now.
See, it wasn’t the case of being too oblivious to see the light, for if it happened to the people around them, they’d likely know.
But for some unexplainable reason, they seem to think they’re personally immune to such things.
Like her boy who was acting like a total scumbag right now.
He just went home and spoke to her, asking about being introduced to girls, but if her guess was correct, this, whatever this was, had been going on for far longer.
So, did he really come asking about other women when he was practically neck deep in a not-so-committed relationship?
Just like his father, whom she almost had to hog tie just for him to see beyond his nose!
And now this child was thinking he’s entitled to that poor boy’s life?!
He’s going around asking for people to court, but he could not seem to imagine this specimen brought forth by the greatest of them to ever leave his side?
I’m sorry, my son, but you ought to learn a few things so you can see what’s right in front of you.
"Silly boy! He’s not going to disappear or die, it’s just that you boys are at that age, you see?"
"?"
"???"
"Oh, you know, Olliver! In fact, your best brother would probably know better." Nodded the marquise, who smiled gently before looking at Luca, who pointed at himself in surprise.
"Me, My Lady?"
"Why, yes, my dear! I heard from Oliver that you’re in a relationship, is that correct?"
The little chipmunk’s face suddenly reddened before he nodded at the question.
"Great! Then you might be able to shed light on this!" She clasped her hands, suddenly startling the cadets before her.
"Would you say that your partner is a dedicated one? Does he take good care of you? And would you consider him reliable?"
Luca listened to all the questions and nodded earnestly after thinking about it.
Not that there were many things to think about, because Xavier was that and more. If anything, he was just wondering why it mattered.
But then she asked, "Then would you be okay if you had to share your partner’s attention with someone else?"
"Maybe if your partner had to protect the said person the same way you’re being protected? And if the same person had to be stuck with your partner for nearly the entire day?"
"Even at night in his room, in fact!"
"And what about taking life-saving blows for that person where your partner would end up injured?"
The little golden dragon’s eyes trembled at this.
That...It shouldn’t be so bad, right?
Right?
But how come none of that sounded good to him? And at night, too?
Luca was not selfish. He understood that Xavier was a responsible man who would try to help others when possible.
But...
But Xavier promised that it was only him. And at night?!
D-29 also considered that a disadvantage because if someone equated his host in the eyes of the benefactor, then didn’t that mean that the host’s share would be divided with someone else?
An unacceptable resource diversion! And so the little system beeped warnings in the mind of its imaginative host.
The adjutant, for all intents and purposes, was trying to figure out what was really at play here when the marquise finally looked at him.
