516.Chapter 516
While the winds of change raged beneath the surface of Hasen City, a carriage from the Prince Regent’s estate leisurely made its way toward Mount Westin.
Nolan said, “Next time you’re off doing something like that, could you at least take me with you? Or give me a heads up? We re in the middle of something, and then I turn around and you’ve disappeared, leaving me and a whole group of people to search all over Hasen City.
“And you, of course, end up halfway to becoming Her Grace’s personal guard.”
Ross, who had insisted on tagging along with Nolan, was sitting outside, cracking his whip and complaining non–stop in a slightly aggrieved tone, “Do you not think the Black Flag soldiers are good enough to guard her?
“Why did you have to jump into action yourself? You’re the Prince Regent for crying out loud–how could you be doing something so… beneath you?”
Nolan inside the carriage was too lazy to respond to him.
“What do you know, you brute.”
Ross, who had only ever wielded a military sword and had never even touched a woman’s hand, certainly didn’t understand
To Nolan, this was just a little private moment between him and Serenity.
Although it was a one–sided affair.
“Oh, right, right, I don’t understand. So next time you go off to guard Her Grace, could you at least bring me along?” Ross persisted.
Nolan immediately shot him down, “No.”
Why would he want to ruin his alone time with Serenity by having a big, clumsy shadow hanging around?
Ross sighed deeply and scratched his head, clearly frustrated with Nolan’s “whims.”
Four hours later, the carriage finally arrived at Saint Grace Nunnery.
After knocking on the gates and informing the abbesses, Nolan made his way to Serenity’s courtyard with practiced ease.
“Serenity, come quickly, I’ve brought you something wonderful!”
The moment he entered the courtyard, Nolan eagerly called out.
Eliza, who had been reading medical texts in the yard, looked up at the sound of his voice and immediately spotted the small bamboo cage Nolan was holding.
Eliza asked, “What’s this wonderful thing you’re so happy about?”
Closing the medical book in her hands, she set it aside as Nolan approached and placed the cage before her.
Eliza stared at the gray, ugly butterfly inside the cage and asked, “Is this… a butterfly?”
Diana, who had been helping Eliza with feeding the poisonous insects, leaned over to look and was greeted by the unattractive sight.
She exchanged an uncomfortable glance with Nolan and thought, ‘Clearly, Nolan’s sense of aesthetics and emotional intelligence need some work.’
But Diana had misunderstood Nolan’s intention.
Because the focus of the butterfly Nolan brought wasn’t its appearance at all.
Nolan grinned, “It’s a bit ugly, but this little thing was something my people went through a lot of trouble to get.”
Smiling at Eliza, he added, “Serenity, why don’t you take a guess at what this is?”
Eliza, hearing his words, immediately realized the butterfly was far from ordinary.
Eliza asked, “Can we open the cage?”
