When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 1968

Chapter 1968 Job Hunting
In the blink of an eye, two days had passed.

Magnus's body had mostly recovered, and Denise's sympathy had run its course. At seven o'clock sharp, she stood by his makeshift bed and nudged him.

“Get up. Time to look for a job.”

Magnus groaned, burying his face in the blanket. “What's the rush? Let me sleep a little longer.”

Annoyed at the sight of him still lounging around, Denise said nothing. She simply bent down, grabbed the blanket, and yanked it off with one swift pull.

A wave of cold air hit him, and Magnus curled up instinctively, shooting her a glare. “What was that for?”

“Get up, or I'll splash you with water.” She turned and headed to the bathroom without waiting for a reply. Moments later, she reappeared, holding a basin of water and standing squarely in front of him.

Seeing she wasn't bluffing, Magnus scrambled to his feet. “Okay, okay! I'm up!”

Seeing him finally get up, Denise set the basin down. “Good. Get yourself together and find a job. It's time you start paying me back,” she said, then turned to get ready for her own day.

Magnus didn't want to rely on a woman forever. He had dreams of his own, ambitions waiting to be fulfilled.

“Just wait. I'll surprise you,” he muttered to himself, full of confidence. After all, he had once been a manager. Surely it won't take long for me to get back on my feet, right?

But the reality of job hunting hit him hard. Not only did companies reject him before the interview stage, even small shops turned him away without hesitation.

“You came here without any experience and expect us to hire you?”

“You didn't even apply properly—what makes you think we'd give you a chance?”

“Aim for manager? Why not aim to be the CEO while you're at it?”

“Get lost. We don't need lunatics here.”
