When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 1969

Chapter 1969 Working At The Club
Denise took him to the place where she worked.

When they arrived, Magnus stared in surprise at the lavish, brightly lit club. The corner of his mouth twitched slightly.

“You work here?” he asked, raising a brow.

No wonder she always left early and came back late.

Denise noticed the look of disdain on his face, but she didn't react. “Yeah,” she said simply. “Working here is the fastest way to make money.”

“You really don't respect yourself, do you?” Magnus said bluntly.

He had frequented places like this before. To him, women who worked in clubs were all the same; cheap and shameless.

A flicker of hurt passed through Denise's eyes, but she masked it quickly. “Maybe. But I don't have a choice.”

How else am I supposed to pay for my parents' treatment? Without money, they're as good as dead.

Only then did Magnus remember that her parents were seriously ill. Guilt rose sharply in his chest. “I'm... sorry. I forgot about that.”

For the first time, he felt genuine remorse.

In the world he used to live in, he would've never crossed paths with someone like Denise. And only now was he beginning to understand that some people's lives were nothing but a relentless fight to survive.

“It's fine. Come on, let's go inside,” Denise said calmly.

Magnus nodded and followed.

He watched her walk ahead, still struggling to believe what he was seeing.

When they first met, he'd been struck by how young she looked. She was far from the kind of woman he imagined working at a club. Everything about her demeanor felt different.

Denise led him straight to the manager.
