An apology riddle?
Ethan wanted to maintain his cold demeanor, but when he heard that, he couldn't hold back his smile.
Her apology was filled with sincerity.
When he noticed the signature at the bottom, his mood improved. She had actually just commissioned the piece, rather than purchasing something ready-made.
With this level of sincerity, even if she had done something wrong, he would've forgiven her.
"Thank you. This gift is really special. I really like it."
She must have done something unusual, like owing a huge favor, to get a master calligrapher to write something like this.
Either way, he was satisfied and surprised.
"I'm glad you like it."
Josephine let out a breath of relief. "So, does this mean you forgive me?"
How should he put this?
Ethan wanted to laugh, but he held it in.
He wasn't actually angry at her. He was just frustrated that their relationship hadn't progressed despite spending so much time with her.
Especially the day before, when he saw her chatting and laughing with Zayn over a meal, he felt even more anxious.
He was afraid that she would get back together with Zayn.
He was worried that his efforts would end up in vain.
Finally, when they played squash in the afternoon, he wanted to use that opportunity to shake things up.
Even if he couldn't make her fall for him or even develop any feelings, he wanted to leave an impression.
In truth, everything was an act, from start to finish.
Josephine's squash skills were indeed decent, but her explosiveness and reflexes were limited. It would've been great if she could score four to six points against him.
If he were to go all out, she'd be lucky to score three points against him.
