The cave’s layout consisted mainly of passageways at the front, with a few hidden chambers used for storage.

The real battleground lay in its depths, which was a network of artificial tunnels. The innermost chamber stored all the materials for making thunder grenades.

Jessica fell into deep thought for a moment. Previously, they noticed the guy called the sect leader seemed to outrank the Hall Master.

‘If even he dares stay here, there should be a hidden escape route somewhere. But ordinary people are probably not aware of it.

‘Did Leon discover it and slip out through there? Or did he never stay in the cave in the first place?‘ she wondered.

“Ms. Yates, let me search again. His Highness must have left marks for us,” Magnus insisted, preparing to venture in again.

However, it was pitch–black in the cave, and they might not be able to find it even if His Highness left the marks. Spotting marks in pitch–black surroundings was nearly impossible.

“Wait a minute,” Jessica called out, stopping Magnus.

Not far inside, a few of their people were standing guard. Outside, the place was completely under their control; the cave entrance and the surrounding area were all locked down. Unless there was another secret passage, no one inside could escape.

The greatest fear at this point was that the people inside knew they were doomed and would ignite all the gunpowder that made the thunder grenades and perish with everyone.

‘We must subdue them all, and do it silently,‘ she thought.

“The rest of you stay here. Magnus, I’ll go with you to check it out,” Jessica said.

“No,” Magnus rejected instantly. “Ms. Yates, stay here. I’ll handle this and be right back.”

“I might know where he would leave a mark,” Jessicca said in a low voice, holding Ray, who was about to stop her. “Don’t act rashly. If anyone else comes out, use the same method. Lure them out one by one.”

Ray was reluctant to let her take the risk. ‘I’m a full–grown man. How can I let a girl take the lead?‘ he thought. ‘But she’s indeed been here with His Highness…‘

“I’ll go with you guys,” Ray said, feeling uneasy. ‘She’s the girl His Highness has taken a fancy to. If anything happens, I must die before she does,‘ Ray thought.

Magnus felt the same. Therefore, it was not easy to make them stay. “Alright. The three of us will go in together then,” Jessica said.

She turned around to look at Markus, who had been following them and commanding the people. She said, “If there’s any sign of trouble inside, you must evacuate everyone immediately without delay.”

“Ms. Yates…” Markus said hesitantly.

“Anyone who stands with me must never become a liability to me,” Jessicca said, her expression darkened.

Markus understood. ‘If I refuse now, from this moment on, Ms. Yates would no longer see me as a partner she can live and die alongside,‘ he thought.

He truly admired Jessica. Though they did not belong to the same unit, working with her had always been pleasant, and he hoped they could remain friends in the future.

Markus hesitated briefly before nodding solemnly. “I’ll follow your orders,” he said.
