Shannon looked over with narrowed eyes and noticed a coil of gray energy around the mother's ankle resembling remnants of the thing that'd tripped her.
Beside her, Elliot huddled close and muttered, "It's a deity." As the Hedgehog Deity himself, he was naturally more sensitive to other supernatural beings.
Shannon combined himself with the grey hue she'd seen earlier and speculated that it was likely the Snake Deity.
But Skylar frowned. Even if it were a deity, they couldn't simply harm humans in public.
Just as he was about to stand up and track the culprit down, the lecturer, Logan, spoke up. "Forget it. This doesn't count as harm, so no need to meddle."
The deity had hidden its presence up till that moment and had only acted to stop the mother from harassing Lainey, so it was a good deed in a way.
Plus, the deity had withdrawn its energy after intervening, so it was unnecessary to pursue the matter further.
Shannon observed Logan's stance, and her eyes flickered with thought. She suddenly turned to look at the noisy family of three.
…
The once-noisy compartment had quieted down at some point. The family of three appeared to have settled down and no longer caused trouble.
The other passengers assumed they'd given up after Lainey left and thought no more about it, but Lexie and the others were seated close to the family.
They noticed that the couple continued to curse, and the child was still bawling loudly. But none of the sounds reached the ears of the passengers.
It was as if they were performing in silence. Their mouths moved, yet no sound was heard.
Lexie had thought it was due to her silencing talisman, but when she removed it, there was an eerie silence. What was going on?
