The next second, Skylar's face dropped. Ignoring everything else, he urged, "Run!"
Following his words, the ghouls, once sluggish due to the daylight, now twisted with grotesque expressions once again.
Their movements seemed more agiler than before. Baring their bloody teeth, the ghouls snarled and lunged toward them.
Just their visible changes and the unmistakable ghoul energy that they emanated were enough for Skylar to know that these half-zombies had completely evolved into true ghouls. They simply couldn't stop them anymore.
As Skylar and the others used talismans to hastily escape the pursuing ghouls, they noticed that a constant surge of ominous energy began to gather toward a certain spot in the west village the moment these villagers fully became ghouls.
With the ghouls formed, the ominous energy spread. The Unmelting Bone that had absorbed most of the fey ladies' blood finally began to take shape.
…
In the warehouse, the sinister-looking Alaric flashed a cold smile at the disheveled Shannon.
"I didn't plan to do it so soon, but you just had to rush your death. If that's the case, I'll let you in on the power of the Unmelting Bone."
Earlier, he had been chanting incessantly. On the surface, it appeared as though he was strengthening the Blood Fiend's power, but in reality, he was using the village's array to forcefully accelerate the transformation of the ghouls.
Though there were only a few hundred ghouls and the Unmelting Bone hadn't been fully refined yet, dealing with a young girl like Shannon was more than enough.
"Hexspawn, kill her!"
Did these feeble mystic arts students think they could actually halt his Decaybringer Array? How delusional!
The zombie, known as Hexspawn, stood frozen in place, his emotionless eyes fixed on Shannon while his withered, terrifying face subtly betrayed a hint of confusion.
Although unsure why he didn't act promptly, she swiftly retrieved the near-transparent, weakened Leah and Benji Gold while wiping the blood from the corner of her mouth.
Then, she provoked Alaric, saying, "He doesn't look like he listens to you."
Alaric was somewhat speechless, thinking, "Yes… I'm aware. Thanks for the reminder, though!"
