Unlike the others, Hank brought his bidding sign and carried an emerald pendant.
A deliberately vacated seat next to him held a custom-made glass box containing the stone turtle emerald pendant crafted by Shannon.
Bringing the Mini Stone Turtle to the auction wasn't a coincidence. When Sylvan had been convicted the day before, Mackenzie approached Hank again to bid him farewell one last time.
Though Hank still felt uneasy around her, he was reminded that her brave decision to report the spy had cost her life. He dismissed his fear and mustered the courage to say a proper goodbye.
After sending Mackenzie away, he turned to the Mini Stone Turtle and attempted to talk to it as Shannon had suggested. "Could you stop letting me see ghosts? Please?"
Though the capture of a spy hidden at Seastone University had been a positive outcome, he genuinely refused to deal with ghosts again.
"If you can hear me, could you take back your gift? If you want to thank me, could you do it some other way?"
Perhaps due to his rambling, he dreamed of the Stone Turtle again that night. This time, it said more than a single word.
It uttered three words, "Hungry… I choose…"
The next day, Hank mulled over the three words.
Being constantly hungry was the Mini Stone Turtle's default state. Worried it might run out of raw stones to consume and turn to him instead, Hank always made sure to surround it with raw stones daily.
Yet, it was forever starving.
Combined with the words "I choose", Hank figured it didn't care for the raw stone he provided. It wanted to choose for itself.
He couldn't believe it. The Mini Stone Turtle was picky about its raw stone.
He had no choice but to take it to the auction house so it could pick what it wanted.
As the auction was about to begin, Hank carefully removed the Mini Stone Turtle from its custom glass case. Then, he carefully placed it on his lap and held it with both hands.
