The old, buried memories resurfaced all of a sudden, prompting Caleb to turn sharply at Scott.
Almost reflexively, Scott stated, "I didn't tell on you!"
It had been a long while since he had done that. No, it had been a while since he had a chance to do it.
Thalia chimed in at the right time. "Don't worry. I'd just been away from the family for too long, which was why I needed Hec to tell me about everything that had happened."
She gazed at Caleb's stiff face and, with a look of concern, added salt to the wound. "And gosh, so many things happened while I was away. I can't believe you were trapped inside a doll."
Caleb fell silent, thinking, "I'm almost certain Aunt Celeste is doing this on purpose."
Fortunately, today was a day of family reunion. After teasing him a bit, Thalia didn't press further and instead went on to greet the other younger members one by one.
Hank and Xavier's attitudes were neutral. Although Eva and Scott were only born after Thalia disappeared and had no memories of her, they held onto the sole fact that she was Shannon's mother.
Scott didn't bother to hide his flattery. "Hi, Aunt Celeste. My name is Scott. I knew you were Shannon's mother at first glance because you both look so beautiful.
"Among everyone in the family, aside from Hector, I'm the closest to Shannon. I've always regarded her as my real sister! So, if you'd like, you can also treat me like your own son from now on…"
He kept talking on and on to himself, oblivious to the way Adrian's and Janice's mouths were twitching beside him. Adrian was practically itching to smack his son again.
Caleb was already hopeless, and now Scott was proving himself to be just as unreliable.
Before the adults could explode in anger, Eva, eager for her turn, screamed at Scott, "No, I'm the closest to Shannon! She dotes on me the most!"
