"Shannon…" Kai muttered and looked at Shannon with the expression of a child who'd misbehaved.
"I didn't realize Ben had been gone since last night."
He was frustrated. He'd moved in to help Shannon, but he'd barely mended their relationship, and now he couldn't keep an eye on Benjamin.
"It's not your fault," Shannon said.
Benjamin could teleport. If he wanted to leave, no one could stop him.
She was just mad that he'd left without a word again. And beyond that, a deep, indescribable helplessness washed over her.
As if sensing her emotions, Benji Gold popped out of her pocket and tilted its tiny head left and right before zipping away. Then, it found Shanny Gold curled up in a corner facing the wall.
When Shanny Gold was pulled out, it immediately threw its head back and pretended to cry loudly. Then, it stomped its tiny feet furiously, clearly upset and sad that Benjamin had abandoned it.
Shannon immediately understood that Benjamin never intended for her to find him, but she could guess where he'd gone.
He'd most likely gone to where the oceanid clan lived, the sea they'd agreed on.
Kai was furious. "How could Ben do this! He took that damn Stone Turtle with him but didn't bring your paper figure!"
Then, he turned to Shannon and asked, "Are we still going after him?"
"Yes, of course," Shannon answered without hesitation. She knew why Benjamin had left without saying anything, but that didn't mean she'd just walk away.
Even if not for him, she'd seen with her own eyes how the oceanid clan suffered from putrefaction. Plus, she'd promised Verus, and she'd still check it out.
